Re: Telegraph article: Pupils at prestigious public school will receive lessons in 'white privilege'
Interesting post, Simon, thank you. I had a quick look on line (including Wiki CH alumni, which describes Colston simply as a slave trader...) and was struck by the fact that, although said to have attended CH, he was from a very wealthy family. I didn't think there would be too many full fee paying...

Re: Re-educated by Lucy Kellaway
In reply to Loringa's post, I was hoping for a few more posts from Old Blues who have taught in the state sector. Do all other OBs go on to teach in the private sector where perhaps they feel they will get an easier passage? How sad, and not a very good reflection on our old school which prides its...

Re: Brexit
If there was a new vote regarding Brexit I wonder what the result would be this time round. What a mess the country is in. It would be interesting to find out, but of course we won't. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if the outcome was the same, only more decisive... And I still here in Scandinavia c...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse
Will Pe. A float? Does he weigh more than a duck? Just don't mention the old blue, convicted predator paedophile, Breakwell...right? Not sure where you get that from. My concern is the apparent assumption he 'learned his trade' at CH and, more importantly, the ambiguous questioning of Pe. A's and o...

Re: Ben Breakwell convicted of abuse
This forum, which started as a place for OBs to share memories of CH (both happy and unhappy), has for some time perhaps understandably been focused on the question of abuse, which is IMO why a number of longstanding members, particularly the ladies, are no longer with us. A good deal of essential h...

Re: Olympics mania
I came down for breakfast to find my parents in a lather of patriotic excitement. "We've won a medal!" they crowed. "What for?" I asked. "Clay Pigeon Shooting!" the answered jubilantly. "Oh dear," I thought, "I hope the poor old clay pigeon isn't too hur...

Re: We knew him as the Viscount Corvedale
He sounds to have been an interesting man, was he a good teacher? I knew him as the Viscount Corvedale. I didn't enjoy German (while French came naturally to me, German felt more like a branch of advanced maths), but I'm sure he was a fine teacher. My only memory of him in that regard is the follow...

There was an old feller named 'Freak
Who was thought to be well past his peak.
Though tough as old boots,
When he used the term fruits
He suddenly became rather meek.

Re: Dorm Raids
Hmm, my day would only have been about 8 years earlier. I'm trying really hard to imagine Basil Gregory organising something similar... no, nothing's coming through, my imagination has completely failed!  I have to say, though, that on being woken up in the middle of the night and thumped...
