Re: Fairport Convention auditioning drummer circa 1967 ?

I've only just been alerted to this. What a great story. I wonder if anyone took a photo at the time. Tim Walmsley, I have almost certainly spoken to you in the past, without knowing you were ex-CH, as I saw The Barely Works several times back in the day, alongside The Lost T-Shirts Of Atlantis, Son...

Shame to see those marvellous old wooden tables covered in what looks like fakey wood laminate. Health & Safety gone mad no doubt!

Re: Current reading matter

What I'm really reading is "Why People Believe Weird Things" by Michael Shermer, includes chapters on Holocaust deniers, Creationists, alien abductees etc. Marvellous

Re: Which scarf do you like best?

My stripy scarf was stolen within months of starting at CH. In fact, come to think of it, most of my clothes were stolen, and by the time I left all I had was about 3 socks and a pair of rugby shorts. Damn you thieving knaves. Bet you're still doing it.
So I'll have to say Gerald Scarfe.

Re: Peele B St Matthews Day 1969 - I think

Here's my photo of St. Matthew's Day 1977. Uncannily like the first photo in this post I think you'll agree. Notice the smiling presence of Mr. Webb, who I always thought looked strangely like Prince Charles:

Re: Mr.Grimshaw.......

Here's a photo of the man in his element. Can't believe I still have this. I found it on the floor somewhere at school in the last few weeks I was there in 1981.

I used to smuggle back 4 or 5 cans of McEwans ale that my auntie gave me. They seemed to fit quite nicely into an empty cornflake packet, which I'd keep in my dayroom locker in LHB. Don't think anyone ever saw me having a crafty can at lunchtime behind the locker door.

I never thought John Peel's accent sounded very Liverpool, certainly not full-on Scouse, but then Tom Keeley never really had that full-on Brummie thing either. I think it was more their similarities of intonation. I remember rescuing a huge pile of Eleanor Keeley's (Tom's daughter) 70s Jackie magaz...

Trivial point: did anyone apart from me think that sleepy Tom Keeley spoke like DJ John Peel? No? Just me then...again.
