Re: The Story of Old Blues in North America - BCOB Book Project

I remember Jim Bell trying, unsuccessfully, to teach us the art of a forward pass using a rugby ball. Alas the aerodynamics are sufficiently different from the US football that he could never obtain needed spin. Since moving Connecticut, he and I communicated several times, but circumstances never l...

Re: English is from England, not elsewhere

Considering this was in reference to the British Columbia Old Blues it seems a bit parochial to find it hard to associate OC with something Canadian as a first guess.

Re: Old Blue Rugby 'Blues'

In spite of the recent event at Twickenham, why limit this thread to Rugby? So then we could have mention of Cricket (and DRW Silk). Why stop there? There are Rowing, etc (and even Tiddly Winks) to consider. What do you mean “even Tiddly Winks(sic)”. As a member of a team that made it to the second...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers

The least flamboyant master I can remember was RW Crosland, who taught physics. He would come to chapel on Sunday evenings, with his wife, who wore strange hats (or maybe, a strange hat -- I can only remember one). He ran the Scout Troop, it was joked he did it because no one was less scout-like th...

Re: CH San

If you mean the physical location of the San, there was a road that ran from the back of Maine that lead to it.

President Trump said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of maths instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes.”

Of course, he can't play Blackjack unless he is naked!

Re: Clean clothes at Horsham in the 40s & 50s

Once again. Maine A in the 50s seems to be an outlier. The changing room trough was used a lot, especially after rugby and cross country runs. My memories are of a steam-filled atmosphere with extremely muddy water everywhere and the trough solidly packed. As for limits on the bath, I remember none,...

Visiting the Tower in uniform

Can students still get an escorted tour of the Tower of London if in uniform? My mother pretty much forced me into one, probably about 1956, though I have a (possibly false) recollection that a preliminary phone call was involved.

Re: RESEARCH

Katherine, Of course.I only happen to be doing the boy's bit first and will turn to Hertford when that is complete. All, I now have the Horsham calendar for 1951-52. It is all pretty straightforward but while not part of my research there are a couple of activities which I cannot place: 1. 'Weighin...
