Re: CH cross-Channel Regatta, July 11-14

Judith and I were going in little Moonshot with Anna da Silva and Cara Loukes. Both were due to have joined us in Guernsey on the morning of June 10, although we...

Re: School Chaplains

The version I heard was that he was sacked after p****g on Flecker's bald head. But that is surely apocryphal.

Amazing.! A man of many parts and from another era. Do you remember the huge picture of a cow defecating on the wall of his lab? It was there for years. The picture I mean - not the cow.

Sailing on Moonshot

So pleased to be welcoming a succession of Old Blues aboard in the last week or so: Cara Loukes to Scilly (her third attempt on Moonshot as bad weather had turned us back on two previous occasions when she was aboard); Christian Collins with Alice (his fiancée ) and then on Monday we have Marcus Com...

Re: Strange old man dressed in WW1 army gear / dog named lobster

I did Chemistry and Biology via heuristics memorably with Bill Kirby; he called me Gubbins. This was pre-Seaman and Seaman's major reforms and sackings - plus Seaman's introduction of school-wide illustrated lectures on sex by the charismatic, psychiatrist Dr Matthews ("homosexuality is an ado...

Tomorrow

THE DEFICIT There is a much more important deficit than any they talk about - the Deficit of Compassion. In her blog "Wonder in Aliceland" (q.v.), Alice writes: "nations are not households. If individuals are in debt, it makes sense to make cutbacks. Switch from Tesco to Aldi. Stop ru...

Re: Happy Birthday DavebytheSea !

Dear John. Thank you so much. I haven't been on here for ages - I'm sorry. But delighted to know that I am still remembered here (if only by you). Very busy preparing Moonshot for launch on April 1. Two lovely YOBs antifouled her the other day and both are singing with me in Rossini's Petite Messe S...

Re: The Charge - has it been changed?

You see what I mean, Rockfreak? There's no possibility of real debate, because their instincts are to try to trash your motives .. err, sorry, take the argument ad hominem . Sad, but all they want is to reminisce. hmm... not true! Some of us, however ancient, want to do more than reminisce. Mere me...

Re: Domestic Maids

A Polish maid appeared for a bit. It was expedient that a boy and her left the premises. ... and there were the Sicker nurses ..... in his book Growing up in A War (Amazon £4.69 and an excellent read about CH), Bryan Magee rather touchingly describes how a young nurse took pity on the injured Magee...
