Roger Wilson RIP

I may have missed it but I have seen no reference on this Forum to the sad death of Roger Wilson (Housemaster of Peele A in the 70s) on 4th May of this year, aged 79. A great housemaster and First XV coach. The funeral on 27th May was very well attended, but predominantly I think by those assoicated...

Re: Death of Bomber Nicholson

Bit of a latecomer to this chain but I would certainly like to attend some form of memorial event at Horsham - can't attend the Bedford one. Chris has cost me a lot of money over the years as I have tried to follow his advice, delivered at the lunch table on several occasions, to choose champagne if...

Re: The Glorious seventies

Welcome to the forum Brown! Did your buddy Andrew Quest have an older brother called Steve? Steve was my vintage and a bastion of the 1st XV and 1st X1. Would that have been 'Dulwich' Quest, so-called because he missed a penalty in the last minute against Dulwich which, if put over, would a) have s...

Re: Horsham Speech Day 1974

I just had a sudden fit of nostalgia and pulled apart our back bedroom to find my O and A level history notes (they're about the only school work I still have because I really enjoyed history - despite doing French instead at university). Amongst the exercise books and loose leaf sheets of paper we...

There was a rumour that the kiff had bromide in it, but if it did it certainly didn't have the intended effect.

Re: Bokkers Today

re the bocker who topped himself, it was before my time but the story remained in circulation. As mid-60s squits we were told it happened by the Prep/Leigh Hunt steps.

Re: YOU MUST SEE THIS!

Glad to have confirmation that we did go to Westminster Abbey and that I'm not completely deficient in the memory department. Still can't recall the Royal Festival Hall lunch tho'....

Re: Penguin-Bashers: Did They Really Exist or Were They a Myth?

I remember a big confrontation in Shelley's Wood in the early 70s with a bunch of guys from some place I think was called Muntham. I also remember Newsome in Assembly praising whoever it was that intervened on behalf of a smaller kid in Horsham - but I don't think I ever found out who it was, or was...

Re: YOU MUST SEE THIS!

The connection with Westminster at that time was the Chaplain was great mates with the then Dean of the Abbey. Also I don't think security was such a big deal then! However I wouldn't be 100% certain about Westminster being the location for the whole school outing - maybe someone else can remember. ...

Re: YOU MUST SEE THIS!

If we went to Mansion House for lunch it must surely have been St Paul's we went to. Which may be right 'cos I can't for the life of me remember lunchthat day. A couple of years later we did the Lord Mayor's show for the first time, which I think was the first non-school event we ever did (except fo...

Re: YOU MUST SEE THIS!

As a first timer on the forum I just picked up this thread. The reference to the 70/71 London visit with two bands must be to the **th anniversary of the Royal Mathematical School when the entire school went to Westminster Abbey. Funny thing is I can't remember which bit of the band I was in that da...
