Re: The trial of James Andrew Husband and Gary Dobbie

Understand. But I imagine they are more concerned about the inevitable civil suits using comments on here.

Re: The trial of James Andrew Husband and Gary Dobbie

Did they explain what they thought might prejudice the trial? The comments were very restrained and neutral. I can understand their discomfort with some of off-topic discussion.

Re: Damian Le Bas, Radio 4 Book of the Week

I heard this morning's episode - quite entertaining. Reminded me of "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat-Moon.

Re: Reading to the dormitory

Regardless of which country has the best system, CH isn't even in the top 100 of UK schools at GCSE Grades A* and A or A Level Passes Grade A* and A.

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr

I remember him well as the best wood and metalwork teacher in his first few years at CH when I was a junior. Perhaps that adds to my acute sadness over his appalling assaults and the ridiculously inadequate sentence.

PETITION: (Split out) Is 26% Full-Fee Paying Pupils Too High?

I have split out the off-topic comments in this thread No, you have censored them. Strangely you have kept Taplin's reply to the first part of my comment which now stands out of context - and contains several starry eyed claims about Seaman that anyone who was there in the 60's will know to be untr...

Re: Is 26% Full-Fee Paying Pupils Too High?

I don’t think you should apologize or self-sensor because a master met an unfortunate end – whatever it was. CH under Seaman was a very strange place. There were a few brilliant masters but most were mediocre. Some were completely incompetent and had no interest in their work or the outcomes of thei...

Re: photo wanted

one 'public' picture that fits the bill; it was of a number of quite senior boys sitting casually (but posed) around the fountain in about 1961
It was about '67. Tate & Lyle commissioned it for a publicity shot. You could try their archivist if the CH one doesn't have it.

Re: Jack Hards and Wells, Prep B bootroom

Hards and Squit officiated every morning in the Prep Hall over the one third of a pint of milk all school children had to drink. Hards had a wooden leg and Squit was mentally disabled - as was Edie the cleaner. For some reason, people used to call out "Oink, oink" at Hards. What a bunch of obnoxious...

I didn't attend a leavers service ...

Of all the spin attempts to excuse getting sent down joining the police is certainly the most original.
