Re: Jack Hards and Wells, Prep B bootroom
It was Jack Hards and 'Squit' Wells Jack Hards who would hand out exactly two custard creams from a tin box on top of a chair in the middle of the Prep block hall. Everybody would be going around saying 'oink Jack, had your milk yet?' this was the days before Thatcher the milk snatcher. Jack Hards wa...

Sept 1963. On the first morning in Prep A we did Noseblowing. 'Handkerchiefs out, blowing by numbers I,2,3,4,5,6. Handkerchiefs away. There was a sign in the dormitory which said that Senior boys were excused, and that it was their individual responsibility. We also had to do nose blowing before ent...

Re: Domestic Maids
A Polish maid appeared for a bit.
It was expedient that a boy and her left the premises.

Re: SPECIAL NEEDS AT CH
Further on 'Special Needs at CH' I remember reading somewhere that somebody did not want Dr Barnes Wallace to marry because they did not approve of his 'Eugenics' Samual Pepys called in at Christ's Hospital after having been drinking in a public house with some very colourful ladies. Mr Pepys was ve...

Re: SPECIAL NEEDS AT CH
Further to my post!! Being really serious!! Calmly and quietly and confidentially, put it all down in writing and I think you could well get it right. There are some very smart people about! I had a bad time, but 'The map is not the territory' talk to the people who know, and that is not me. Good luck

Re: SPECIAL NEEDS AT CH
I went to Christ's Hospital between 1963 and 1968. Probably as a result of my father being exposed to radiation, I am not saying where or how he was exposed for obvious legal reasons, I developed Congenital cataract. I went blind during my time at CH and I can honestly say that CH is the last place ...

Re: Punishments at CH
Another punishment which springs to mind was 'Matrons List' Van Alphen used to go through the underpants every time they were changed, and if she found any scorch marks she would put the names of the miscreants on a list which was hung up on a big clipboard. This became known as 'Matrons boggy bag l...

Re: Freemasons & CH
Dr Dee and Edward Kelly Freemasonry may have got a hold at Christ's Hospital because a Dr John Dee came back from studying Alchymy, Astrology and and Magic at the University of Louvain, he had to go there because he was run out of Cambridge. He returned to England in 1551, and was introduced to Edwa...

Archbishop Ussher worked out from the ages of the prophets when the earth was founded, Freemasons believe in the creation story. Freemasons went to CH, so they are connected with Bishop Ussher of Armagh and his beliefs. Noah is the father of Freemasonry, and his son Chem is the father of AlCHEMy whi...

Re: Freemasons & CH
A Duke is supposed to be the top rat in the Masonic ****house. I worked at a University and the Head of Maintenance was a Freemason. A lot of the contractors were also Freemasons, and they always seemed to get the quotes for their contracts just right every time. The Head of Maintenance interviewed ...

Re: Punishments at CH
In Prep A we had 'Bonfasts' which meant that everybody in the House was entitled to slap you on the back the same number of times as your house number,so if your house number was 15 everybody could slap you on the back 15 times. I have known people who stopped running on the Itchingfield loop being ...

At the Leigh Hunt end of the tube, there was a wall, there was a gap and you could look over the top and this was called the 'Gym Tube' I think. There was a rumour that one of the maintenance staff AKA 'Bogwasher Bill' hanged himself there. As a result the tube is said to be haunted by 'Bogwasher Bi...
