Some of the time, I think that there were three or four of us in turns (two at a time).

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976
And Ian Cook/Edgar Newman (?) taking it in turns to play Cain on alternate nights and climbing up a rope almost to the ceiling of the auditorium, spotlit, then swivelling around in the air like trapeze artistes. I've a sneaking feeling there may have been no Risk Assessment and there was definitely...

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976
As far as I remember John Mason arrived as a recent graduate (Cambridge?). I think he was teaching French. He left shortly after Cain to try his luck with music.

Re: Who Knew What?
So I think we all have to agree that after the leadership of Clarence M.E. Seaman ended, the rot set in. Phew, ‘What would Seaman have done?’ post. Back on form, JR. What he did do before retiring. Losing dead wood and decaying branches. I'm now so glad I went when I did before the onset of namby-p...

Look's as if more than a few schools have had the same issues!

Re: Transcripts
I must say I think it's just not on that the transcript of Burr's appeal identifies the victims by both their firstname and surname initials. What kind of anonymity is that, when anyone with an old Blue Book or anyone who was in Maine A at the time could identify them with relative ease? Surely bet...

Re: The Water Tower
The water tanks in the tower got their water from an artesian well in SHARPENHURST hill. The black and white water level board on the top of SHARPENHURST could be seen from the foot of the watertower. Should the level become too low then a steam driven pump at the base of the tower helped the water...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers
Here are some more facts Ivor R Maconnell A quiet maths teacher (Cambridge graduate) who taught grecians (and others), son of a vicar. For a time he taught divinity too. An oboe player of (near?) professional ability. When stricken with a fatal cancer, in spite of strong suggestions to quit as head...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers
Mr Matthews - (I don’t know his first name) Non Oxbridge graduate. Chain smoker with much stained fingers. Taught chemistry and sen housemaster of Peele B. He seemed ineffectual and has torticollis (head permanently bent sideways). Was a war time appointment who stayed on long after the war’s end. ...

Re: There's a Copy of Cain! on eBay
I still have my copy (I think), but no (working) way of playing it! If I remember correctly some of it was live recordings and some was re-recorded at the end of the summer term that year, I helped with the re-recording.

Re: the Tube
I assume that the "Tight Passages" must be as now. During the War, the Tube from the Houses to the Dining Hall, were wide enough for a House to march to meals, in wet weather ------- Regrettably they were sandbagged into House divisions, to avoind a "Through-blast" from a bomb, ...

Re: the Tube
Does anyone know whether The Tube which extended in a North South direction when built in 1902 as well as West to East under the boarding houses is still in existence? Chris Bartlett To the boiler house near the old swimming pool (series of skylights around the edge of Littleside), under the cloist...
