Re: Who's Blue

Are there any plans to publish an updated Who's Blue ? It is now 22 years since the last one in 1996.

Re: HOUSEY SLANG

I can remember the punishment of ten or more minutes silence being imposed for the whole Prep A day room for some misdemeanour or other by an individual, probably very minor. Naturally the follow up retribution by other boys on the person concerned was probably a worse punishment.

Re: HOUSEY SLANG

"Fotch" was a blow to the head usually administered by more senior boys to their juniors. I don't recall this being used by masters against boys who generally used a slipper or cane. Was corporal punishment ever done on the hand ?

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr

It is fair to say that the various peccadilloes of masters in far off times were just never reported to either parents or other school sources. Several incidents have been mentioned by Old Blues in autobiographies which in today's climate would be considered completely unacceptable. If and when a ma...

Re: The Story of Old Blues in North America - BCOB Book Project

D ear David,
I was interested in the above project. One name you may wish to include, who I am sure that you know about is George Michael Betts , T.A. 1941-49 who was a Professor and who died some years ago.
Best wishes,

Re: Chapel Music

I was a member of the C.H.Choir for three years (1942-45) under the Director of Music Dr. C.S. Lang. There were three settings of which were regularly sung, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis. Stanford in B flat, Harwood in A flat and Walmsley in D Minor. Later Stanford in C was also sung. I recall Lang's...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers

I have often considered that there is a definite need for a directory or Who's Who of C.H. staff over the Horsham years .
I know that there are certain restrictions on publishing such information less than 100 years after death. Perhaps a list of biographical details would suffice.

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers

Ian Sutherland played one match for Cambridge University in 1949 and is another name to add to the list of C H staff who were first class cricketers beside that of H.S. Goodwin and E.C. Wright. Are there any others ? The spelling of the Music master's name was W.C.B. Southward. Did he also teach mus...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers

Ronald Crosland was known as Dickers De Cros which makes me wonder if his name was actually Richard. The story goes that on one occasion he was conducting a parade in the CCF, I think it would have been the A.T.C. section, he needed to halt his squad somewhat quickly and and called out in somewhat o...

Dear David, Is there any chance that you can send me a photocopy of the Head Master's account as i would be most interested to read it ? I mentioned some time back on another thread in the Forum, I forget which one, that a biography of H.L.O. Flecker would create great interest to Old Blues and the ...

June 1944 when a flying bomb was shot down by a zealous night-fighter and crashed into the trees over the masters' garages. The C H Home Guard h...
