Re: It's time for Sillett, Cairncross and Poulton to comment.

I've unilaterally moderated this topic, removing a number of posts. The three of us as moderators use our best judgement, and try to contain our own frustrations and anger (believe me, it's tough sometimes!) - sometimes we don't succeed, for which I give you my apologies. There are many times where ...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Absolutely. Would they dismiss a member of staff today for failing to report abuse, and publicise why they’d been fired? If so, they should be happy to condemn what’s gone before. If not, there’s still a problem today? The difficulty is "can they prove that the staff member knew and failed...."? Ot...

Re: Roger Martin

I feel for Howard here - he’s been brave and open enough to come forward onto the Forum, openly as a former CH teacher, give some views and information, which he certainly didn’t have to do. That’s FAR more than most other CH Staff, past or present, or any others in authority from CH have ever done,...

Re: Roger Martin

Does seem to be a massive delay?? As you say, maybe this hints at other investigations ongoing, directly related or otherwise....

Fortunately, I think seriousness of this means that even with teenagers it’s not a topic of humour/teasing...

Re: Expelled

An interesting parallel - I recall pupils being “asked to leave” as a kindness, so their record didn’t show expulsion.

The same seems to have been applied
to teachers.....with potentially devastating consequences to children.

Re: Congratulations to this year's Grecians and their new Headmaster

I’d be very surprised if nothing’s been said to pupils and parents? Taking “the good name of Christ’s Hospital” with you wherever you go feels MUCH more challenging now. Friends of mine, with no CH link at all except that they know I went there, have commented to me - so it’s fairly public and widel...

Re: Congratulations to this year's Grecians and their new Headmaster

Out of those successes, 40% are going to prestigious universities including Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Imperial College, KCL, LSE, Oxford, and UCL. I wonder whose definition of “prestigious” they’re using, and how those who’ve got places at the other Uni’s feel?! https://www.christs-hos...

I would echo the congratulations to this year’s Grecians - well done I’m sure!

Re: Roger Martin

Howard, would value your recent experience over what CH would do today if they found out a member of staff had had abuse reported to them, but then failed to report it to the authorities? I’d then ask the same question I asked on another thread: Absolutely. Would they dismiss a member of staff today...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

What is it about organisation that they choose to hide abuse or controversy, in the hope it'll never come out? They fail to realise that, particularly in these days of social media, it WILL come out - so they'd be far better to immediately publicise the case, push hard for all information to come ou...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

I think some (but not all) teachers can have a tough time getting used to their ex-students being adults, and becoming their equals, or even their superiors in terms of life experience, education, authority or position. We are all still the kids they knew when we were under their authority, and it’s...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Further, I think the school should be more explicit that they WANT all of this to come out NOW, and COMPLETELY - therefore ENCOURAGING people to come forward with whatever info they have. This can only be a benefit to the victims, the school, the Old Blues and the reputation of the school itself. Ha...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

A personally addressed (a quick mail merge) letter to every OB they have details of, explaining that certain staff are under investigation (whether named or not) with the years which are currently being looked at, and maybe highlighting how many pupils have already come forward (hopefully encouragin...
