Re: Corporal Punishment by CH Teaching staff

1. If you made a video of a prepubescent boy in thin pajamas being bent over in a middle aged teacher's study and beaten with a slipper or a cane (with a run up, 'tangents', etc.) and put that video on YouTube or Facebook - you would find yourself quickly in trouble. 2. If you took some Polaroid pho...

An ongoing discomfort with the concept of 'facts' is evident...

All this is incredibly sad, indeed.

...fact means different things to different people
...so 'facts' are person specific now...(!)
Actually facts are facts. Uncomfortable perhaps - but they are facts.

Re: All this is incredibly sad

That the children of staff did not have the same experience as other children is a fact and not speculation. (The speculation was on the chances of being sexually abused being zero for such children, I know of no public information to contradict that speculation. But it may have happened). Abetting ...

Re: All this is incredibly sad

When I was a pupil, masters' children inhabited a gilded cage. They could go home when they wanted. They often did not stay in the dorms. Corporal punishment was likely reduced - because at some point parent and teacher might have to discuss the topic. They were not bullied - because the chances of ...

Re: Why a teacher DOES NOT have to report abuse

Webb's responsibilities were changed during Newsome's time immediately after the chanting incident in the dining hall in the late 1970s. It is unlikely that Newsome was not aware of this sequence of events.

I presume he's referring to the charge
Indeed, and the people abetting abuse (i.e. not reporting it because there was no legal compulsion to do so) were a corporal punishment enthusiast and a racist who was involved in scouting. Nothing to worry about here...

Gregory was, of course, a great corporal punishment 'enthusiast':

Re: Dobbie's departure

Is there a pattern? Divert a thread to another topic and then have the discussion stop - i.e. deflect and block(?) This tends to happen on questions about what was said about teachers who departed suddenly, reporting to authorities, and similar historical rules, actions and inactions. Generally the ...

Re: Roger Martin

TMF Please humour me. What were your years at CH? My years were 74-79 - Newsome years - which perhaps colour my views - and we (Howard and I) did not overlap. A significant amount of sadistic bullying, corporal punishment, and likely abuse was occurring during my time. It is quite possible that the...

Re: Roger Martin

There is no trial by social media, but we are seeing a variable lens, By mentioning that variable lens there is no judgment passed or intended - it is merely a fact. Over the passage of time, the actions of the 1990s: However, I distinctly remember you called a house meeting I am guesssing like in 1...
