Re: Can you identify this pupil from 1969?

Mike Trubridge is Mid A, or so he posts. Chris Ennis used to be in Mid B, (I played Chess with him in the sicker in 1965 before I left) but people swapped houses a lot in the late 1960's.
So my guess is Middleton. Don't know who the mystery chap is though.

Re: Coleridge Block Play photos

sejintenej Sorry for delay to reply - I don't look at the forum that often - too many other interests Kirby called me goofy after the Disney character - I didn't mind. Coleridge A Christ's Hospital is the Facebook Page I was referring to - link https://www.facebook.com/coleridgea.christshospital?pnr...

Re: Does this bring back memories?

on the sub-subject of not throwing things away - I used my School swimming trunks the other day - the elastic still works! Well done John Lewis (we had to buy sports wear from them you may remember). I love the comment by Frances, sounds just like my attic.

Re: Coleridge Block Play photos

I've sent the two photos as attachments to email to John Wexler, as he was in the play. I will send any further photos on a roundabout route - that involves making a Facebook album of them, sharing it with Ray Day ( who manages a Facebook site - Coleridge A) and who seems to be able to upload them t...

Re: Does this bring back memories?

I have a bar of soap from my days with the Civil Service with the Crown on it ( & HMSO) from when I used to work at The Land Registry at Lincoln's Inn Fields in London; as a Cartographic assistant (Clerical Officer grade) we were allowed 5 minutes at the end of each day to wash our hands from th...

Re: Gill and Bill Poland

Thanks very much for this information which I have shared with Martin Blake ( Col B) and Julian Wild ( Col A) who were contemporary with Bill Poland at Horsham. I was two years his senior but knew him well as we lived within two miles of him ( in South Croydon). In fact Julian & I watched the Be...

Re: Reading to the dormitory

sorry Michael Scuffil, I put "Austin" brackets because that was his nickname to differentiate him from the other Mr Jones as you correctly said, but it was not his middle name - he had an Austin car - he went to Carcanet press to publish poetry and he dropped the Austin of course then. Als...

Re: Reading to the dormitory

John Wexler and Paul Wade (monitors) used to read Gerald Kersh to us in Col A Junior dorm - short stories were best, because if you went to the sicker you'd miss an instalment. In the Prep B dorm I remember Peter "Austin"-Jones read Ayesha by Rider-Haggard to us, I think it took him a whol...

Re: Jack Hards and Wells, Prep B bootroom

re the Hairdressers - when I was there in Col A ( 60-65) the chief barber was " Butcher Marshall" reputed to have been an ex-con, quite often cut peoples ears with scissors in an effort to cut as many heads as possible in the room by the tuck shop. I can't remember who cut our hair in the ...

Jack Hards and Wells, Prep B bootroom

Hi I'm sure people remember Jack Hards, a small man with a false leg and his companion Wells; they used to clean the shoes for the Prep boot room, and probably did all what we would call house trades in the senior school, but were considered too young (inefficient). I remember they were both very go...

John Wexler
I'm still looking for that photo referred to - but I have seen yours and they are v.good indeed, especially Kirby's lab, though couldn't spot any of his famous short wave radios. MY brother, also in Col A kept his hampster in Kirbys Lab

the author you introduced to us was Gerald Kersh

Re: So, the underground tunnels...

Re Pirates of Penzance - John Wexler, I arrived in Col A in 1960 which was probably your last year. I also remember Fantle who changed his name to Wade after leaving CH. You read us short stories like "Ali the terrible turk" a one eyed wrestler, and "Neither man nor Dog". I do ha...

Re: So, the underground tunnels...

Hi John Wexler I remember you very well as you used to read to us brats in the Junior Dorm before lights out - each monitor would read on a different night. You introduced me to books I still have, and I'm sure I have a photo of you in The Pirates of Penzance (unscanned as yet) performed by Col A at...

Re: So, the underground tunnels...

I remember as a swab in Col A having occasionally to do coal duty - one went down the tube to the coal hole and loaded scuttle from the heap, sometimes you had to bash the big bits with a pick-axe to get the smaller bits off, then you lugged the scuttle to the dumb waiter and put it on the platform....
