Day Room wall colours & their possible significance
In some ways the general characteristics of a senior house master were reflected in the way boys in the house were viewed. This was so in the 40s and 50s and I suspect is still probably true. At the risk of giving offence I suggest that Peele B was sloppy (P Matthews), Mid A upright, keen and virtuo...

Re: RESEARCH
Every house had an appointed time for the weighing (set about 20 min apart?) which took place at the Infirmary. On arriving (marching at ease) at the narrow path which led to the Infirmary I recollect we then marched in single file, the only occasion we ever did this. One senior boy in each house wa...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers
Here are some more facts Ivor R Maconnell A quiet maths teacher (Cambridge graduate) who taught grecians (and others), son of a vicar. For a time he taught divinity too. An oboe player of (near?) professional ability. When stricken with a fatal cancer, in spite of strong suggestions to quit as head ...

Re: Poor disciplinary C.H. staff
Thanks for your two answers. That’s a very natty French pun. I have never met it before. But my real problem was the mantra,
Could someone explain that please?'Rough Copy', 'Fair Copy', uttered many, many times during his Latin lessons.

Re: Poor disciplinary C.H. staff
I may be a bit thick so could you please explain, “Kit Aitken's mantra of 'Rough Copy', 'Fair Copy', uttered many, many times during his Latin lessons”. Also I may have a poor memory, but I don’t think he taught Latin. As a senior boy, for a term I was in a class from Kit nominally on current affair...

What happens to ‘retired’ Housey coats?
Once yearly boys’ Housey coats were changed for new ones, as they became outgrown or outworn. So what happened to the old ones? I suspect in the 50s they were sold to makers of reconstituted cloth. If the coats were in reasonable condition it is likely they would be highly prized by Old Blues for us...

Re: 60 year Reunion
I would like to attend the 60th year Reunion, but cannot unless it is between 16 and 30 May. Of course my desires cannot predominate. But whenever anyone does know the definitive date, please post it here? Incidentally my only source of information about the Reunion was this thread. How did others l...
