Re: Did anyone know?

Obviously they did. When H***** left in about 1972 the first we knew was that he didn't turn up for our Saturday morning lesson. But I distinctly recollect being told that he had 'been given one last chance' at CH and had blotted his copybook by getting a pupil drunk. Somehow we also got to know who...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

The apparently different treatment of different schools by different police forces is a bit of a concern. Two years ago one of my daughters received a phone call from Lincolnshire Police asking if she could tell me to get in touch with them - cue much panic! Turned out they were investigating an abu...

Re: A comment from a Sexual Abuse Victim from CH

Reflecting on Chris's post, I recall in about 1969/70 the headteacher having a wild panic and hauling all sorts of pupils in. Was this part of a plan to get or suppress some information? It also makes you wonder again about the 'suicide/accident' we had in the school about 68-69 time.

Re: Letter to the Head Master

The issue about other allegations is important. We know the history teacher with a jag left unexpectedly and it was widely discussed at the time as to why - where is he in the story, and who let him INTO the school if they knew he was on his last chance? Does anyone have a list of staff who left mid...

Re: On a happier note: The Good Teachers!

Agree about Noel-Paton - he was also inspiring as an history teacher, which is why I took that up for university rather than geography - which I loved equally but the Lorimer influence wasn't quite the same. It made an odd contrast to having Spurrier, who just used to hand out the essay title and so...

Re: What was the food chain?

Well the headmaster is effectively the CEO to the school, but normally is answerable to the 'Council' or Trustees in a charity, and again the normal thing would be for the Chair to act as line manager of the HT. The question would then be - did the HT consult with the Chair on any of these matters? ...

Re: Who Knew What?

Being new to the forum I'm still catching up with the strands, but there seem to be at least three that are dealing with the issue of what did management know......a minority opinion has seemed to defend the management as they might not have known, but actually it was their JOB to know. This especia...

Re: Rex Roberts Maths Master

In my memory Roberts suffered from being in Maine B at the wrong time. Under Johnstone it was pretty grim, then Roberts turned up who was a different sort of person and he faced a lot of disrespect. If I recall he had an Austin Maxi which was pelted with boiled eggs. Decent man, wrong place really. ...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

I've followed this discussion with interest and sadness. I'm not at all sure it has reached the end either - certainly my history teacher disappeared one Saturday in about 1973 after what were told was an incident with a boy (yes, I know the name quoted). I recall being told that the teacher concern...
