Another here who has no problem with an ID card, I’ve had one in various countries and it certainly made life easier there. I did like being registered as a Guru!
I had to laugh when I read the word Gnu :D :D :D :D

Re: Identification.

Because I was allowed to sign documents on behalf of my employers I had to register my signature with a public registry in Rio. This had to be accompanied by my ID number. I had a problem; my passport number gets changed every 10 years, my NHS number was changed to something I don't know and is so s...

Re: Politics

The mere thought of another vote or referendum and the possibility of the UK having to continue being ruled by European despots, alcoholics and wannabe's sickens me to the core. Immigration has to be more heavily controlled than it is under EU regulations You do realise that MPs can never lie. As a...

Re: Politics

Firstly I’ll state that I voted Remain and would still love to change things to that result, with my new Irish passport I will still be European. Voting aside, I also was born a citizen of the Irish Republic (which I discovered a year ago) though I haven't got my passport yet. Beware; someone among...

I'm so glad I started this thread. The above threads echo my original thoughts. I do however, get annoyed at the constant use of the word 'Diversity'. . Me too. Just accept that the Huddersfield 20 were practicing diversity. The concept is a foreign invention not suited to these green and pleasant ...

Re: The Old Blue 2018

hmmm... If I click on the "edit" icon, I don't see a "delete" option. Is it hiding somewhere? Am I being blind? Is it to do with different user rights. I have seen and see no objection to you editing by deleting and simply writing "deleted" or similar. Thus anyone who had seen it and wanted to go b...

Re: From the sublime to the ridiculous

My wife and I were both members of PETA, only different organizations. Mine was People Eating Tasty Animals. Anyway, early in our marriage, her doctor told her he wanted to run a test on her that involved the death of a small animal. When she didn’t think much of the idea, he asked her what she woul...

I think you know my views on justice and sentences so don't set me off

Pakistan have this week shown they can do the right thing, somewhat surprisingly to me.
Well known; that was law, the occasional Indian method (mob rule) is also justice though I don't recommend it

Notwithstanding the above, I do think that justice is the supreme value.
As was clearly confirmed by Lord Justice Scrutton in an appeal case.

The difficulty is defining "justice". I suspect that rape victims would consider justice to be the castration of their attackers - others may disagree.

Re: Resignation of Baker and emergency appointment of Hansford

Anyone familiar with the film Withnail & I will know that the phrase "The Other Place" is used to refer to Eton - Withnail and Uncle Monty having attended Harrow. I've therefore always thought of "The Other Place" to infer a slightly tongue-in-cheek rivalry but nothing more than that. I guess conte...

male OB (proudly wearing a tie to remind him which school he had attended) who had no idea of the existence of Hertford. Hertford was treated like a poor relation in many ways. Chrissy; I have to disagree with my honourable colleague. At my time, amongst the boys there was no mention of the Hertfor...

Re: Sometimes I forget

Horsham in the fifties allowed one bath a week, though showers after sports were common. Truth is, that was probably more than I got at home. The building I lived in had just one bath for four flats, in an unheated room, so not much incentive in the winter. I agree, I just accepted everything as no...

Re: Wikipedia Entry?

Marty's mention of Ampleforth is somewhat interesting given the forthcoming (?) High Court case by someone who wants his job back after being found Not Guilty of 'naughties' with pupils. Whatever next ?? I want a bag containing a million £20 notes to fall in my garden. Doesn't mean that it will hap...

Re: The Old Blue 2018

I appreciate editorial space is at a premium in these financially straitened times but I do think it a pity that obituaries of sadly deceased Old Blues no longer appear to be published given the content of the last two or three editions. Another tradition gone. Even worse is the tag for full obitua...
