Re: From the sublime to the ridiculous- author unknown

Author Unknown Ladies and Gentlemen, skinny and stout, I'll tell you a tale I know nothing about; The Admission is free, so pay at the door, Now pull up a chair and sit on the floor. One fine day in the middle of the night, Two dead boys got up to fight; Back to back they faced each other, Drew thei...

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr

I suggest that it is a question of proof sufficient to get a guilty verdict in the courts. There was a time when the word of an adult, not even someone as qualified as a teacher, would win against the claims of a kid when there were no credible witnesses. Otherwise the school could be sued for sland...

Re: Politics

Also I still can't see how the Ireland border problem is going to be solved and I think that the EU just agreed to move on to the next phase in order to try and get some traction into the negotiations hoping that a miracle might turn up later.. ; Dead easy; anyone found guilty of breaking the rules...

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr

In my day, the idea of reporting a member of staff would've seemed pretty daunting, because it could so obviously have backfired very easily indeed. We'd have been worried about getting into trouble ourselves if the staff-member, having been confronted by the headmaster, had flatly denied everythin...

Where did your DNA come from?

In a train from London to Manchester, a tourist was berating the Englishman sitting across from him in the compartment. “The trouble with you English is that you are too stuffy. You set yourselves apart too much. You think your stiff upper lip makes you above the rest of us. Look at me ... I’m me! I...

Re: CH and flu

There was a severe outbreak in1957 - no vaccines then. I did not catch it and remember helping in the infirmary. Several houses were used for emergency beds. Can anyone shed any more information about this? My memory is poor. But pictures taken of dinner parades at the time show about 10 people per...

Re: Memories of Corks - chapel organ 1950s

Corks and Buck left under a cloud during the Seaman Reforms I recall. I'm not sure Corks was overly concerned. He became a deacon or something similar at St Paul's Cathedral and claimed he could legally drink 24 hours a day. I went out with him to several very interesting watering holes but didn't ...

Re: CH and Psychiatry

A very interesting thread, so while we are on the subject...... How would dyslexia be treated at Horsham ? I don't think it was even recognised in my days at CH, yet MANY famous people ARE dyslexic. The first I remember to 'come-out' was the beautiful and accomplished actress Susan Hampshire. I kno...

Re: CH and flu

My wife and I have had yearly flu shots for the last decade or so. Sometimes it apparently works and sometimes not. , we get repeated automated texts from the surgery. The actual vaccine is slightly different from year to year depending on the WHO's predictions. Yes - it is formulated on what they ...

Re: The Story of Old Blues in North America - BCOB Book Project

I recollect there were several Americans at CH under identical circumstances to those mentioned above. Yes, there was a new one every year. Never one in Col A in my time and as they would have been in different classes I never realised that they got their buttons. I remember that the one who arrive...

Re: UK’s Top Schools - where’s CH?

I looked up CH on 10 other such sites (which listed between 10 and 100 different schools). CH was mentioned on only 3 of the 10 sites , with ratings as follows. No. 17 (Top IB schools – large cohort [ whatever that is ]) No. 23 (Top co-ed boarding schools) No. 68 (Best independent schools) In spite...

Re: DAMBUSTERS AND C.H.

PSG was certainly there when I was but I had no idea one could opt out of CCF. I did the 3 years in the CCF then worked in the library classifying books. I did not think about it at the time but it must have been one of the PSG works. I remember that there was the opt-out option but thought that it...
