Hi John ! It would appear we went to the same house. My wife also says that I can be emotionally cold at times. Does help at work ! Probably the reason why I moved to a cold country ( Sweden ). Can't remember having any sex education while at CH..at least not by a teacher. Do however remember the pr...

During the sixties and seventies.

Not being an avid fan of CH ( my years at the school were the worst time of my life and a complete disaster for me ) I wonder what type of person the school was churning out in the sixties and seventies ? Okay we were well mannered polite and able to make our beds in the morning, able to wear a funn...

Well it rained all day so the retreat was to be held indoors. Having been asked to "leave" the school the leaving service was pointless for me. My only regret nowadays is that I did not use my forehead and knee on the headmaster ( Newsome ?) as payback for thrashing me so many times. After...

I see no difference between this blog and what pupils have been doing throughout the years i.e. trying to undermine the authoities. Think about it, it's the end of term..many pupils are coming to the end of a life at CH whats the harm in throwing up a middle finger to the rules. Which if I remember ...

What's free at CH, that you'd pay for if you were at a day school?? 1. Music lessons - choir and 'cello in my case. 2. Sports - squash, swimming, rugby - imagine paying subs for those, or a per-play fee? I played squash couple of times a week, swimming at least once a week, and rugby most days (or ...

As long as the parents are sure that child wants to go to the school, that emotionally will manage etc etc. then perhaps it's ok. However it is difficult for any parent to be sure. I was never asked if I wanted to go there. But I did realise that my prep school could brag about it. I do realise how ...

I must admit that I never saw any parents gushing tears when they left children at the school. Remember this was the 60/70's. Perhaps it was not allowed in that epoch. However I do remember seeing a load of desperately unhappy small boys working out on scraps of paper how many days hours minutes sec...

remember in the late sixties early seventies CH was a fairly barbaric place. I still fail to read one viable arguement for sending children away. The " I had a good time " arguement is not viable.

I would say that I had far greater opportunities at CH than I ever would have had at home - partly due to the facilities on-offer, but also the committment of the staff and being around your friends 24/7. I also felt that it enhanced my relationship with my parents - I appreciated them more when I ...

You may have had a good time, the school may have helped your character, but how can you be sure it will do that for your child ? It's strange that so many parents sent children to CH " for the good of the child " that child would have presumably gladly been at home with his /her parents. ...

Maybe it's because I have the good fortune to live abroad, which widens ones views, and because boarding schools basically do not exist here but I notice that no one ask's the questions: do we know that the CH enviroment is correct for our child and why do we have children if we want to send them aw...

Anyone else who hated being at CH ?

The first day was okay--everything was new and exciting. But waking up on that first morning--the terror the terror!

Strangely enough as the years past the dislike of the place grows, even though I am proud of the school and proud to háve been a pupil there. Can anyone help me with that ?
