Re: Death on a roller

As for a master's child if not a pupil would they have been anywhere near a moving roller I think quite probably they might, if only for a lark. Re: Death on a roller

I remember those rollers well. Framework handle front and back which could act as a sort of see-saw for smaller kids.

I do remember stories of a boy being killed but think it was probably more of a 'story' that 'truth, probably to deter pupils from playing the fool.

I believe it is now illegal to possess a Samurai sword unless it's cutting edge has been completely made blunt.

Re: Damian Le Bas, Radio 4 Book of the Week

I feel sure that in the past, especially in the so called "lower classes", prejudices were not as rampant as they now seem to be. When you look at how the poor used to live when we were young there was not much difference between standards. I can remember the kettle springing a leak and it was the ...

If you remember, Katharine, I spent most of my school days in trouble because I constantly rebelled against the petty restrictions!
That seems rather similar to my past, hence another reasaon for me to determine an early exit after 'O' levels

Many apologies. For some reason my previous post has come out in very large font and I do not know how to change it to 'normal.' Sorry!

All sorted for you, David. The wonders of 'IT' !! John.

Re: Ajaz Karim found guilty

I'm tempted to use my powers of moderation. Well, there's gratitude for you. Anyone else would just count themselves lucky to have been immortalised in verse. In fact, why not have a calligrapher copy it out by hand and then have it framed? (PS: I wore the hat just once, in a moment of madness, rat...

Re: Ajaz Karim found guilty

Very amusing but not quite up to the classic standard of Keats, Byron and Coleridge et al, I fancy.

Re: Coleridge: the bones

Talking of Coleridge, there's been an absence of Post War Blue on these threads in weeks past. He was my connection with an earlier era in Col B. Has he been mortally offended by my nautical limerick about him? Or (and one always worries about this sort of thing at my age) has he progressed to the ...
