(2) Was bail applied for and if so, was it granted and what were the conditions of bail ?

Re: Roger Martin

Karim just got ten years but Mr. Taylor is right in saying 'not guilty until proven so'. That is our legal system. I just hope that he doesn't drag the people he abused, or is accu sed of abusing, through a trial. Haven't all of the victims gone through enough already? I have. There is more to come...

Why is it a ‘trial centre’ rather than a court? Is there a difference?
Over to Richard yet again.

Re: Roger Martin

I find the change of Judge in an on-going connected case somewhat strange, but as Richard said, probably due to prior engagements, jolly hols etc.

Re: Ampleforth and Downside

As it happens I know someone who boarded at Downside during the relevant period. In order to safely uphold the family tradition, he has resorted to the rather drastic - in my view - action of moving to Somerset, so that his kids don't have to board. What’s wrong with Wells?! 😂 Wells are fine as lon...

Re: The silence of Elizabeth Cairncross

This morning is the first time I've read that press report. There is nothing in there that states Cairncross WOULD comment after the sentencing, only that she couldn't until the sentence had been passed. I hope the journo WILL do a follow up. Please keep us updated. However, I suspect with a new aca...

Re: Ampleforth and Downside

The Good Schools Guide says about CH: "The pupils know they're lucky to be here. For every student who gets in, four or five are turned away. Most pupils love to sing and the cathartic feeling of their voices joined together, soaring past the frescoes in the chapel is one of the moments they squirr...

Re: It's time for Sillett, Cairncross and Poulton to comment.

I wasn't going to expand on this thread too much. However, on Saturday my wife, youngest daughter and I were having drinks with friends who live local to us. The man happens to be an OB and wishes to remain anonymous. He was at Horsham after my time and doesn't have much time for the school. Needles...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

What is starting to worry me slightly, and I'm not having a go at Plum Senior or one or two others with strong staff connections to The School , is that I'm getting the impression some are starting to get the attitude regarding OB's, "Well, we gave you a fantastic education, and we read you 'The Cha...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

When a headmaster is writing lies to parents or writing references for people instead of calling the police, that is about personal responsibility and accountability. The day to day running of the school is the heads role too. The clerk is involved but i imagine the Almoners only do high level audi...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Your consistent bias against the current CH administration borders on the snide, but pleases some. Reid has become the focus of a baying pack on here. They could consider the complexity of his job and that he has more important work than futilely attempting to satisfy a very small number disaffecte...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

How about passing a law that all male teachers at boarding schools should be chemically or medically castrated before employment is commenced ?

That should do the trick !

(inserting tongue in cheek !!!)
