Re: A question regarding a punishment book

Types of punishment started to change dramatically, (less brutal) after C.M.E. Seaman retired, a few years after I left and the new broom started radical changes !

Re: A question regarding a punishment book

Hi Charlie. I asked the question Many moons ago about punishment books without success. We had a punishment in Coleridge given by the monitors called a 'Post Office' which entailed running do to the post office and back within a set time. It was properly called a 'Quarter Mile'. Is the booklet Monit...

Re: Nell Todd painting for sale

I enjoyed spending free time with her in the art school. On one occasion. I spent some time with Miss Du Pre doing pottery. She was a charming girl.

Re: Meaning of colored walls

Khal Drogo is right that Col B pupils in the 1950s had to endure under AH Buck. They had to endure his little excursions up to the dorms in the dead of night. I suppose the house was "sporty" under him. It depends what kind of sport you're talking about. When did N T Fryer take over from ...

Re: Was Rock 'n' Roll Banned at CH in the Fifties?

PC Rutley's memory is going, as some of us had long suspected. John, there was a house radio perched on top of the lockers to the right as you walked into the Col B dayroom. There was always a crowd round it on a (I think) a Sunday lunchtime when Two-Way Family Favourites broadcast requests and hea...

Re: Was Rock 'n' Roll Banned at CH in the Fifties?

I can't recall a house radio in Coleridge B. Some of us in the early had the new small transistor radios - very tinny in sound which quite adequate for listening under then bed clothes. I think mine cost around £10/£11.

Re: Covid 19 Hardship Fund

the first one I remember was sh*t. You're a tough critic... I don't know if it was my screen but I got dates on the right of the screen. Your quote is about the first of two Col A house plays. The one I called sh*t included a lot of crockery being smashed off stage - I remember it for that an...

"Bring back slide rules, blackboards and fountain pens; so many unnecessary luxuries that could be done away with... " Slide rules and fountain pens!! What sort of nonsense is this? Fingers and an honest nib pen that sprayed in all directions were good enough for us. Don't forget the sand...

You are quite right about the 'gentleman' with wooden leg. He was there in 1958. Rather a miserable guy if memory serves !

He had work connected with the wardrobe department. I believe his surname was HARDS.

Does it really Make an difference ?

It's all a case of control from the top. Something that has been seriously lacking in the past !
