Re: Roger Martin

Karim just got ten years but Mr. Taylor is right in saying 'not guilty until proven so'. That is our legal system. I just hope that he doesn't drag the people he abused, or is accused of abusing, through a trial. Haven't all of the victims gone through enough already? I have. There is more to come....

Re: A comment from a Sexual Abuse Victim from CH

You have my respect firstly for being brave enough to speak so openly of your experiences and secondly for finding the inner strength and resilience to rise above the trauma of being abused and go on to attain the rank and qualifications shown in your signature. The majority of us posting regularly ...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

The moderators have emailed to tell me that my limerick has been removed because one or two people have objected. OK, but by the same token Jim Rayner posted a "like" and richardb laughed at it. So how do we decide when something should be removed? If people are going to object should they not be o...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Jim has beaten me to the punch but I concur with his comments re timings for Webb and Burr. I left Maine A in the summer of 1968 and Burr had been a junior housemaster for all of that academic year. In fact I think he came in with Basil Gregory in September 1966 when Maine A became a junior house fu...

Me too!

Interestingly the email was (is) in my junk which is not usually the case with CHOBA emails.

Re: What was the food chain?

Did anyone on here ever eat in the OB's Club when it was in London ? I did once, and once was enough !! I tried to once with another Old Blue friend who was also working in the City at the time. (Mid / late seventies). We wandered in and didn't see a soul for about 5 minutes. Then a chap appeared a...

This thread suggests that Derek Baker is deceased.

Re: Phone boxes

I only recall 3 phone boxes. The ones behind the Courtroom and next to the Tuckshop that have already been mentioned, and one next to the Post Office. These were the only ones I recall, although I believe senior Housemasters had a phone in their study, presumably for "emergencies". As a policeman, ...

Re: House structure

Wikipedia shows Andrew Higgins as an OB. But it says he was born in Epping during what would have been termtime. I'd long gone so have no idea but is it possible that Andrew could have been adopted? https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl I cannot find an Andrew Higgins registered in the Epping ar...

Re: House structure

I don't think any of the masters who were masons ever hid the fact (most notably Bob Sillett MBE), a lot of my peers who joined the lodge are equally open, and the school hosts lodge days. Freemasonry is wound into the very foundation of the Horsham site. Mr Higgins (my chem teacher) was a member. ...

Re: On a happier note: The Good Teachers!

There is already a posting called Favourite Teachers on this Forum and so maybe this new thread is doubling up what has been said unless and being pedantic there is a difference between a good teacher and favourite one :P The reason I posted this thread here is because over a long period of time a ...

Michael Scuffil

I'm surprised we haven't heard from him during this burst of activity on the forum.

I always enjoy and value his contributions regardless of whether I agree or disagree with him.

Hope he's ok.

Re: On a happier note: The Good Teachers!

They were in the majority. I'll start: Gerald Davies. Being taught English by him was a bit strange, Shakespeare in a Welsh accent. But on the rugby pitch I loved every moment. He never said much but I remember that he told me one day that I could be good at rugby. Those few words coming from him p...
