Re: Michael Scuffil

I’d been wondering that too. I think that all the cases were after his time, after JR’s too. That hasn’t stopped both JR and myself following in horror!

Re: The arrival of the girls

I was at Hertford long before the merger, I had a brother at Horsham. Hertford was on a small site in a town centre, we just did not have the space to roam as it appears you could at Horsham. Around the school there were high walls with broken glass on the top, we were never sure whether to keep us ...

Re: What was the attraction?

Going back to the original question, was the attraction having accommodation thrown in? I think at an early stage of one's career that could be very useful, then inertia might set in! At Hertford none of the teaching staff were billeted in the boarding houses, we had non-teaching housemistresses. I'...

Re: WHERE IS CHOBA?

You can count me out as well, David. I've got more than enough on my hands at the moment, having just taken on a big commitment which will last for at least the next five years.

Re: House structure

My memory from the 50s is that, with rare exceptions, we stayed in one house for our entire time and we’re not encouraged to interact with pupils from other houses. This led to a very parochial viewpoint and members of other houses were viewed with suspicion. I remember Barnes was seen as full of r...

Re: WHO TO CONTACT REGARDING ABUSE AT CH

I think they should remove the tag line A school like no other I certainly hope that no other schools have such a story of abuse. Quite a few other schools have the slogan "A school like no other". In fact, CH is the 6th school in the search results on google! I wonder how much CH spent on corporat...

Re: WHO TO CONTACT REGARDING ABUSE AT CH

JR you are not the only one, I don’t think we should be having to go to CHOBA to read such letters.

Re: Transcripts

I've said before that my husband worked with Burr for several summers on the Ffestiniog Railway, he's confirmed from the photo that it is the same person. PPdeWB was dismissed as a guard for committing offences that would nowadays have to be reported to the Rail Accident Investigation Board, such as...

Re: James Andrew Husband, Pickering Town Council

My husband was a Rotarian for many years. In the U.K. The Paul Harris Award is not given lightly. If I recall correctly, the Rotary Club has to give Rotary's own Foundation US$1000 before it can nominate somebody they consider outstanding to receive the award. The fact that Pickering Rotary Club gav...

I'm still not convinced that the good of the students is taking a higher priority than the once good name of the school.

Re: A post on behalf of one of the Dobbie/Husband victims

We know not if the school is doing anything to help and support you at these difficult times. If not, then the school should be. I think I speak on behalf of all former pupils in expressing the hope that if there anything that any of us can do to help, you need only say. You have all shown incredib...

Re: The Deputy Head Writes...

I'm confused by this I’m so proud that 98 per cent of our leavers, many of whom have faced high levels of adversity, leave us as confident young men and women, having secured places at top universities and who often later return to help future generations of pupils either financially or through advi...

Re: Science teaching in the 50's

While potential athletic and musical talents were closely examined and encouraged, it would have been far more useful to focus on developing advanced science skills than on hobbies. At the end of our time in school, both of us were resentful of getting little recognition (we didn't get academic but...
