Re: When You Left CH, Did You Cease to Have Access to the Musical Instrument You'd Learned How to Play?

Life at Hertford sounds absolutely gruesome back then Katharine. Culturally and in other ways. Was this due to the Headmistress Formerly Known as DR? Or That Woman as some refer to her? I don't really know the answer to that David. It probably was a lot to do with DR. One thing I have been aware of...

Re: When You Left CH, Did You Cease to Have Access to the Musical Instrument You'd Learned How to Play?

I can't speak for the other houses at Hertford, but we were very restricted. When I started there was a wind up gramophone in the house, later replaces with an electric one. We weren't allowed to play ANY music on it during Lent. The more I read this Forum the more differences I find between the two...

Re: Congratulations to this year's Grecians and their new Headmaster

I've an idea that in my time girls could apply to both Oxford and Cambridge, but boys only one of them, this was before co-ed colleges of course. I certainly applied to both, but didn't get an interview at Cambridge. I was applying after A levels, I would love to know whether I would have got into I...

Re: Congratulations to this year's Grecians and their new Headmaster

Yamaha, have you a link to the ISC list? You still seem to think that CH achieved a pass rate of 53%, they achieved far higher than that. Please look at https://www.christs-hospital.org.uk/school-life/school-news/excellent-a-level-results-for-christs-hospital-pupils/ where it says the average grades...

Surely 53% A and A* does not equate to a pass rate of 53%?

Re: Should there be a separate sub-forum for the “historic abuse” threads?

It may have bordered on abuse, but it was all of us, nobody was singled out for squizzing. I can't remember it happening when I was a Senior but that may be just that I had become inured to it, it just happened. I didn't become a rebel until after I had left school!

Re: Should there be a separate sub-forum for the “historic abuse” threads?

I was not aware of any sexual abuse in my time, but sadistic abuse certainly. There have been several stories told on this forum when the Hertford section was active. As to anything more, it may have happened, posters here who were in the same houses at Horsham at the same time as the known victims ...

Re: Help the newbie!

Having had three different sessions on GDPR training for my various voluntary activities, I should have thought of that!

Re: Help the newbie!

Puffinsplace (sounds like shades of Lundy Island!) Seems to me that the ladies would be better equipped to help you and most have decamped to their site within the glories of Facebook. As a mere male I keep clear of femininity but I would suggest that you try to find the ladies' Facebook page. Perh...

Re: Help the newbie!

Hi Welcome to the forum. I’m afraid the parents section has gone very quiet in recent years, so I can’t guarantee a current, or recent, parent will be along to answer your questions. Many years ago, when I started I had a non standard swimsuit and suffered a lot of teasing and almost abuse from fell...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

I think but won't swear to it, the posts of Headmaster and Clerk have been combined in the last few years, which means there's one person less who could advise Simon Reid of the correct action to take now.

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Julian has. It absolutely right, it should be relatively easy for the school to do. I was amazed the other day, someone here mentioned that he had received the CHOBA Newsletter that day, I queried why I hadn’t with Gina Skillings, her email reply told me that not only had I received it, but I had op...

I had Radio 4 on much of the day, there was only the single reference to him as far as I heard.
