I think we referred to it at Hertford, I certainly knew about it then.

Wiki is wrong! Launchbury

Last night I was watching the rugby and wondered what Joe Launchbury was doing now. I looked him up and was surprised that Wiki has him going to a school in Devon. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Launchbury

I’ve never corrected Wiki, but I’m sure others here have the skill to do so.

Re: On this day 70 years ago

For the benefit of our English-only speakers the song is from a father to his daughter going on her first date. When the bloke gets a bit forward "Don't say no, say perhaps, perhaps, perhaps" I don’t remember my father ever saying anything quite like that! Thanks for the explanation of yo...

Re: % of full fee paying pupils - any update available?

Interestingly, a fair number of people who educate their children privately are in the Armed Forces who then have to satisfy demanding criteria to qualify for Continuity of Education Allowance, including those who are overseas. If they withdraw their children, they will be entitled to highly sought...

Re: % of full fee paying pupils - any update available?

I’ve just had this in an email. It shows 23% paying full fees. We are delighted to announce that for this academic year Christ’s Hospital is committing a record £24 million in means-tested bursary support. This means that of the 876 students at CH, 672 (77%) students will receive a bursary, averagi...

Re: Bluecoat School Photos

The Guuardian has an article today stating that CH was the first English school to have a uniform. Is this correct? https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/sep/25/why-do-we-force-our-kids-into-ties-and-blazers-when-not-even-bankers-wear-them-any-more CH uniform mentioned but no photo of it! ...

Re: On this day 70 years ago

What an interesting post, Brian, thank you. I can’t remember the exact date I joined in 1959, possibly 20 September. I think the very next day was St Matthew’s Day and the Mons who had been to London brought back greetings from my brother. Enjoy your meal at the E&O, it is many years since I sta...

St Matthew’s Day

As so often in this house, Radio 3 is on in the background. As I write, it is Choral Evensong from Llandaff Cathedral. They have said a couple of times that today is the Eve of St Matthew’s Day. I’m sure any Old Blue hearing that would have memories of the day. My immediate thought was, what is the ...

Re: Amelia White (in the Daily Mail) deplores her CH years

I think we know that boarding school life is not for everyone. Unlike many Old Blues, I was brought up with parents who hoped I’d go to CH, my brother started at Horsham when I was just 5. We brought our sons up telling them that they would go to boarding school at the age of 8 or 9. I think that st...

I could read it, just by clicking on the link, for some reason I didn’t encounter a paywall. As you say, chilling echoes of what I’ve read here.
