Re: Identification.

Very much like David, I have had my signature registered in various countries around the world. I have an ID number for Spain, but not an ID card, as it is assumed that my country of origin has one, and I should use that. Fortunately I have a driving licence and this will do, when required. My wife ...

Re: Sometimes I forget

I can't remember any showers as such in Coleridge B. Just the two baths and the one long trough with tin basins, and that was it. Then there were the two stand up urinals and the one semi shielded sit down bog. You're talking about the lav ends. The trough and showers were in the changing room area.

Re: Sometimes I forget

The showers over the trough did work, at least in Barnes B.
I seem to remember someone being pushed under the shower, fully clothed, and on other occasions, a coat could be hung over the shower head, making it easier to clean, (a swab's trick).

Re: The Old Blue 2018

As someone involved with the Old Blue for about 10 years, I see this latest edition as a continuance of something started with the demise of the CH Club. The fee paying CH Club was replaced by CHA and then CHOBA because it was found it difficult to recruit young OB's and that an association of all O...

Re: Corporal Punishment by CH Teaching staff

Definitely not the same 'Hewitt'. R. Hewitt's subject was English, both Lit. and Lang. I believed he played rugby for The Harlequins. As far as I'm aware, he wasn't at CH for any great length of time If he is the person I am thinking of, then he also tried to teach some of us Russian. After "A' lev...

? Capital punishment California style is death by boredom?
I have often wondered whether it is a worse punishment to be in prison fo the rest of your natural life, or a "quick" exit by way of execution.
The waiting for the inevitable, in either circumstance, must be "hell".

Interesting that it is the only thing that hasn't changed, apart from the building.

Re: All this is incredibly sad

I have wondered whether the conversion from houses run by senior pupils to Senior and Junior houses run by staff, did not in some way, make it easier for abuse to take place. Barnes B had an incident in 1959/60, but to the best of my knowledge, it was between pupils. After that I can recall no incid...

Re: Annoying car man

Not exactly related, but when my son was using our house in Guildford, he paved over the front lawn so that I could park my car off road when we visited. (The council charges a fortune for visitor's tickets and you only get a book of 30 per year). He works in Farnborough, got knocked off his motorbi...

Re: When You Left CH, Did You Cease to Have Access to the Musical Instrument You'd Learned How to Play?

In 1959 under Chern, Barnes B had mainly classical music. CJ Miller arrived and we got Blues and Jazz. I have a couple of 10" records that belonged to CJM with music from Leadbelly, Paul Whiteman, (History of Jazz) and also one of Edmundo Ross and his Rumba Band. I had forgotten about the last one, ...

Didn't Rev John Robson go on to be the Queen's chaplain?
Maybe there is some connection somewhere?

Didn't he arrive at CH To join Rev. Pullen around 1963 ?
Yes
He had also been involved in Hungary in 1956, I believe.

Re: When You Left CH, Did You Cease to Have Access to the Musical Instrument You'd Learned How to Play?

Bit of CH related pop trivia: Learned recently that the Brandenburg style trumpet solo on Penny Lane was played by an Old Blue. Forget his name but I believe he presented a new bass drum to the band and there was a photo in the OB. On the subject of French Horns, I have a jazz LP by Johhny Griffin,...

Re: Data Protection Act

It is at times like this that the demise of common sense becomes more apparent. It all depends who you get and whether they have the ability to use their last remnants of independent grey cells. We have suffered much of the above, but it seems to be more prevalent in the UK than abroad. I have alway...
