Re: Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A

Was Robinson a woodwork/metalwork teacher who joined in the mid 80s? Yes, widely regarded as being thick as two short planks due to both the subject he taught and his northern origins. With hindsight, he was probably a pretty reasonable chap. Mrs Robinson (maiden name forgotten) was the Home Econom...

McCall got booted for luring boys up to his flat in 93? He'd been doing that for at least a decade prior and nobody seemed to bat an eyelid. I wonder what changed....

Re: Who Knew What?

I dont understand what you mean at all. I just stated that Gunning had no control over the house. I don't think anyone is going to want to take me to court over that? Whats more if they did, I would have no problem justifying my statement in court. For example, smoking and drinking occurred openly ...

Re: Should there be a separate sub-forum for the “historic abuse” threads?

Some of the learned attitudes were unnecessarily harsh. We even sat in seniority order for meals - not just clumping year groups together but sitting in age order (and later seniority order based on "black aprons"). A trivial point but indicative of the supremacy of hierarchy in the mind ...

Re: Expelled

Just before the barn fire (which I didn't know about) there was a big drugs story in the papers about CH. Maybe '88 or '89. I think maybe 6-7 were expelled instantly for smoking pot..... despite alcohol being widely tolerated and far more deadly for 14-15yr olds. No idea how it got in the papers be...

If a victim is so severely damaged by the abuse that they cannot work, why shouldn't they be compensated for loss of earnings? The damage very often scars for life. i didnt say they shouldnt i specifically wrote i agreed with you re loss of earnings see "as for loss of earning yes agree" ...

His role may have evolved into that but when i was there he was definitely a maths teacher. IT being more of a a hobby rather than a subject. I think i maybe had one IT lesson.

It's because philosophy requires thinking rather than didactic learning.

Re: What was the attraction?

That said, I also think there was a type of teacher who had zero interest in a social life, Omera, Shippen and Sutcliffe as examples and would imagine CH suited them in this regard. If you mean Roger Sutcliffe I'm not sure he fits into that category. He had 2 separate stints at the school. Whilst I...
