Re: Dobbie's departure

So returning to Dobbie, his friendship group, and so on. Who were Dobbie's friends on staff? Who was his 'manager'? Who was Dobbie associated with? Did teachers have annual reviews and pay increases? Who did Dobbie manage? I also found myself wondering about his writing and academic output - does a...

Re: Address to the Governing Council help please

Hi Rob It will be interesting to see which members of the council you get to meet. The current Chairman of the Council, Guy Perricone, is about to retire and he's being replaced on 1 October by Christopher Steane https://www.christs-hospital.org.uk/school-life/school-news/new-treasurer-chairman-of-t...

Re: Who Knew What?

Well - there were some questions about a refund of fees - here is what I would suggest. Return to pupils or their parents the average fees paid for their time at the school (this takes care of the variable nature of fees). The school can then say they have done something concrete. This would not co...

Re: Dobbie's departure

It is truly shocking and physically nauseating to me knowing that he was abusing children in the building in which I lived and slept [MidA] Was this part of the allegations proved in court? I’m puzzled by why you think it’s important to establish whether this was proved in court. You see if you cha...

Re: Did anyone know?

As far as I remember, corporal punishment had been officially stopped at CH around the merger. The only reason I remember this was because my parents specifically asked one of the senior people (possibly Poulton) they met when I went for the entrance exam or just before I started. I can't remember ...

Re: Roger Martin

As far as I am aware the authorities are aware of all sudden departures in the last 27 years. I just do not know how much more reassuring I can possibly be. Hi Howard, Thank you for your responses - they are indeed reassuring. I am not badgering you - but I am again interested in your comment. 27 y...

Re: Roger Martin

I was never aware of Webb's nickname. My recollection is that we were told that they had left. There were others. How many others? When you were told that someone had suddenly departed, did you ask why?' Another ex-pupil on nicknames: They were all known and just accepted as semi-housey slang. see:...

Re: Roger Martin

I think one has to remember that Howard was on the watch when Karim, Husband and Dobbie were rampaging through the pupils. If it were me, I would be wracked with guilt about whether I missed a sign or two, or could have done more to prevent it. I am sure Howard feels like that too. I think I would ...

Re: LinkedIn profiles

LinkedIn is useless for me as a way of attracting work. My clients prefer to keep their heads down. John Smith drug dealer is not clever. Yes, I can see why it wouldn't work for you, and I guess reputation amongst instructing solicitors is much more important. I don't like LinkedIn but it does work...

Re: A comment from a Sexual Abuse Victim from CH

Reflecting on Chris's post, I recall in about 1969/70 the headteacher having a wild panic and hauling all sorts of pupils in. Was this part of a plan to get or suppress some information? It also makes you wonder again about the 'suicide/accident' we had in the school about 68-69 time. I don't think...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Well done Richard! I believe some of the dates are incorrect. (i) Webb started teaching in 1965 not 1967. I joined LHA in 1967 and he had already been there for two years. This is confirmed by the dates given in the Sentencing appeal transcript. Similarly I don’t think Burr started in 1969 although ...

Re: Will Dobbie be defrocked?

The most celebrated defrocking was that of Harold Davidson, the Rector of Stiffkey (in Norfolk), in 1937. He later worked for a circus and was killed by a lion on Blackpool seafront. The lion was called Freddie. I'm no expert on the range of sentences available to Crown Court judges or the C of E j...
