Re: House structure

It was the block system when I went. Nearly went to LHB as that was were I sat the entrance exam, but I went to ThornB instead. LHB changed to girls while I was still at the school. I had left by the time LHA became girls too. I don't remember the name of the ThB housemaster, but he had a beard and...

Re: House structure

I always thought it was illogical and purely a numerical exercise to split the UF between junior and senior houses. I’m not sure too much thought went into that.

Re: Management knowledge of the Husband/Dobbie cases

Good posts above but may I suggest that this forum is the richer for having @Golfer in it?

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

I remain surprised at the failure to properly reveal in the press that Dobbie at the time was Chaplain, in a school which apparently values such things. Perhaps a number of us have photos of Dobbie in the trappings of his profession that we could upload here, which could be used by the press, and in...

Anyone remember the sadist in Barnes A who used to love giving so-called "tangents"?

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS

The school owns a collection of antique silver http://www.chmuseum.org.uk/authenticated/browse.aspx?BrowseID=7236&tableName=ta_artefacts . It's apparently a significant collection of rare and high quality items dating back to 1490. It's locked up somewhere in London. It contributes nothing to the m...

My main disappointment with this forum (and it is down to the software) is that it isnt possible to "like" a post. My like button would be working overtime at he moment.
Have a 'like' for that...

This is an excellent initiative. This whole topic is inadequately explored.

I have already made initial contact with the BSB (with her permission) - hopefully there’ll be some way they can help, and i think all old Blues would be in full support of doing whatever we can to help.

Re: Who Knew What?

I remember he had his favourites, kids he'd give nicknames to and be all jokey with. Seemed mostly indifferent to others. At the time it didn't register with me, but looking at my memories through the eyes of an adult it's a red flag. The sort of thing that nowadays people pick up on quickly and pa...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS

I think it might be a good idea to stop beating up on Tim Askew; it did strike me at the time that he was somewhat less institutionalised than many of his contemporaries, and he may have some useful points to make. I wasn’t taught by Tim but I was taught by Vikki. To my immense sadness a quick bit ...

I am returning my Bible...

...to the Headmaster and Treasurer.

I’m disgusted with and ashamed of the school. I’ve no need of the parting gift, or the pompous begging letter in it.

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

Maybe C.M.E. Seaman as HM ruled a very tight ship. I think there’s some truth to this. It implies that there is a strong leadership and vigilance element to safeguarding - and that there was an era of two or so decades at CH where this was demonstrably absent. An independent enquiry should focus on...

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

There should be an enquiry. This was endemic. During my time at CH: My history teacher was raping someone. My chaplain was abusing multiple people, and the link between him and Bishop Ball merits further investigation. My cricket coach was abusing multiple people. My French teacher was an out-and-ou...
