Re: Should Christ's Hospital Stop Being a Faith School?

If CH is going to stop being 'religious' it could also cash in the 'royal' nonsense too. That just leaves 'ancient' which is pretty inescapable.

Re: Politics

Name the subtlety you're more capable of? Pick a cause you don't like. Then: Define the discussion so you can control it. Dominate the main media channels. Marginalise and belittle the views of the unwanted: apply logic; rhetoric and satire. Create false associations with other unpopular causes. Ta...

Re: Politics

Blocking the traffic? Ooooh how radical. Are you sure UK Uncut isn't a typo? No. Is Ed Bell a typo? I was being partly facetious in case you hadn't guessed. Numbers in the street bringing things to a halt is better than doing nothing. I'm interested to see what OBs think about politics these days. ...

Re: School Dinners In Present Times.

In the days of Mrs Keeley, the food was absolutely dire. I vividly remember the whole school served rice pudding which had been cooked with salt, not sugar. Nobody noticed until it was served to tables - no checking, no quality control.

Probably no massive, unkempt limes left to fall over.

I do recall the schadenfreude of seeing all the trashed cars in the morning,

Re: THE FUTURE OF CH

Some OBs, who do not contribute to this Forum, are working against CH’s present trend to move upmarket and attract children from richer families. In the words of one such OB, “Housie … seems to be going from strength to strength. … [We] have been fighting a losing battle to keep it for the poor, bu...

Re: THE FUTURE OF CH

Something deeply, deeply wrong here. I learn that children are also being withdrawn because of affordability. This entire process also lacks transparency.

Where is the open discussion about this happening?

Re: THE FUTURE OF CH

I'm surprised this thread hasn't attracted more attention. Insofar as I care about CH it's the core ethos, not the fabric or some of the very dated mottoes and thinking. That core ethos seems to be under threat if it's feasible that a child be withdrawn because the parents previously satisfied the c...

Re: THE FUTURE OF CH

What are the checks and balances that would challenge the Headmaster and his coterie on such things as the 3% cap? Such a change does seem to be a challenge to the aims and ethos of CH.

Re: Freemasons & CH

I never liked that 'Love The Brotherhood' bit.

On reflection, it's all a bit shoddy - fearing God seems a bit fire and brimstone, and I'll leave it to someone else to honour the King. Perhaps it's time for a new motto?
