Threads being moved

When I checked the "First Time Visitors" section which heads off the list of categories I noticed with interest that some of the threads that were previously on the "CH Stuff" site had been moved on to the former section. Including threads like "God in the Quad". Now why should this be, I wondered. ...

Re: A CURIOUS PHOTOGRAPH

Renton also went to Ashdown House Prep, a feeder for Eton which also educated Viscount Linley, at about the same time - like Renton he apparently wasn't much impressed by it although more reticent on the subject. The head beak, Billy Williamson, now dead, was by Renton's account a gleeful sadist. CH...

Re: Michael Cherniavsky

Someone (possibly Geoffrey Cannon) has mentioned elsewhere that Chern had a lisp, although a soft one. Of course this didn't stop boys impersonating it. I did nineteenth century history under Chern and to this day, whenever I hear talk about electoral reform, I think of rotten boroughs and "Old Thar...

Re: Politics

What a strange idea of Banker Brown's that the City is the saviour of British industry. Immediately after WW2 Churchill fretted about "proud finance", the way the City of London coralled so much of its wealth into its own coffers rather than bankrolling other more kosher and useful sectors of the ec...

Re: Politics

Right on cue with my poem Vitae LamBrexit a German EU negotiator complains that Britain seems to be treating these negotiations as a game. Well of course. Look who's in charge. Bumbling Bozza the toast of the Bullingdon. It's all down to plucky Brits dodging bouncers hurled down by dastardly foreign...

Re: Less flamboyant CH teachers

Science wasn't my subject but I was taught for a year by Gordon Van Praagh who got an obit in the Guardian for his inclusive teaching methods. I vaguely remember something of this at CH because whenever he wanted to teach a science issue or phenomenon he would ask for our ideas and then chalk up "Jo...

Re: Politics

Easter Naus-ratings are topped by Theresa May who is quoted in today's Guardian as saying how her Christian religion inspires her. Perhaps particularly that bit in the Bible that says : "To him that hath, more shall be given, but to to him that hath little, that which he hath shall be taken away".

More on Steve Hilton this week. His missus is the well-heeled Rachel Whetstone who is a vice president at Uber. Uber have been getting all sorts of bad publicity recently and Hilto does seem to have a habit of getting involved with dodgy people of one sort or another. Whatever benefits he was charge...

Re: celebrity culture

Going back to the very start of this thread, Chuck Berry certainly got the big media treatment when he died, including TV concert footage. When Dr Scuffil and I were at school rock 'n' roll was denigrated by the authorities at school and elsewhere, partly perhaps because it was just so wild and part...

Re: Politics

Our friend Steve Hilton's in the news again. After his roles as, variously, free-market, state-slashing Thatcherite under Cameron, and then bleeding heart, compassionate conservative after he'd walked out of Number Ten, he now surfaces with another move sharp right in which he's revealed to be plann...

Re: Politics

Now that the EU has made a reply I think it's time for the second verse of Vitae LamBrexit: The streets of Brussels are running red, Red with the wreck of a deal that broke. Tusk's said no and May looks half dead, And Spain has given us quite a poke. The river of bile has brimmed its banks And the D...

OK public schoolboys (and girls, although Katharine seems the only one game enough to venture on to this site these days). The article 50 button has been pressed, the other 27 states have had the gauntlet thrown down, where do we stand? The Brexiteers are gung ho. I have composed a poem for them, ba...

Re: problem with Chrome

I always felt sorry for Catweazle who used to shout "electrickery"! when anyone switched on a light. In the sixties my aged grandmother came to live with us. She came from a rural area and had never quite got used to the telephone. When it rang she used to jump. But she discovered that you could sto...

Re: problem with Chrome

This Forum (for me) has suddenly become unreadable on Chrome -- it's covered in red circles enclosing symbolic lines representing text (and I can't shrink the drop-down menus). This doesn't happen in incognito mode, but there of course I can't post, because surprise surprise I'm incognito. I'm writ...

The blue has now turned to red. Is this in deference to my political views?
