Re: Politics

More on Steve Hilton this week. His missus is the well-heeled Rachel Whetstone who is a vice president at Uber. Uber have been getting all sorts of bad publicity recently and Hilto does seem to have a habit of getting involved with dodgy people of one sort or another. Whatever benefits he was charg...

Re: Time to bring back Kiff Bowls?

Some years ago touring in France our B&B served our breakfast coffee in bowls just like Kiff bowls for size and shape. I knew how to pick mine up! Quite so Robert . I remember well being surprised when travelling by road down to the South of France and stopping at a roadside bistro/cafe for breakfa...

Re: Housey Slang.....

For some unknown reason the word 'drut' recently came into my head so I thought I should post while I remembered! Whether it was a word peculiar to Maine A in the mid sixties or a more general term of CH slang I don't recall at this distance. It was a derisory term for somebody considered wet and p...

Re: Politics

OK public schoolboys (and girls, although Katharine seems the only one game enough to venture on to this site these days). The article 50 button has been pressed, the other 27 states have had the gauntlet thrown down, where do we stand? The Brexiteers are gung ho. I have composed a poem for them, b...

Re: Can We Donate Our Dead Bodies to Christ's Hospital?

I am reliably informed that Richard Ruck is still alive and well and still residing not far from CH.

Re: Can We Donate Our Dead Bodies to Christ's Hospital?

No thread from Dave by the Sea has been removed by me.

In fact, he is a forum moderator, but has not signed into this site since September last year !

Re: Can We Donate Our Dead Bodies to Christ's Hospital?

A somewhat gruesome thought, imho. A friend of ours was successafully treated for cancer with a new trial drug, and he has donated his body to one of the top hospitals in London. He lives on the south coast and the cost of transporting his remains has a ceiling, meaning he will have to pay a bit on ...

Re: problem with Chrome

Personally, I don't use Chrome.

There was an issue with this site last week when Julian was working on an up-grade.

Re: Three-day week 1973/74

I can't personally remember any power cuts at CH.

I was employed during the infamous 'three day week' and only really remember it as 'rather inconvenient' !!

Re: Ghost stories etc?

I remember the term applying to all CH estate workers, be they farm workers or general repair staff.

They did all seem rather rustic to me.

Re: Ghost stories etc?

As I have mentioned somewhere on here before in the very distant past, one of the older 'bockers', (estate-workers), did hang himself in the tube from the over-head pipes during my time at CH, though I never ever heard of any pupil later claiming to have 'seen' or 'heard' his ghost.

Re: Politics

Once again Freaky , I have to agree, especially having recently spent the best part of a week as a guest of the NHS. I very quickly got the impression that there were far too many 'Chiefs' ' and not enough 'Indians' doing the actual work. Maybe, just maybe , a ' culling ' of some management might be...
