Re: Happy Birthday John Hopgood.

There are quite a few in the UK.
Some come and run with us on the Costa Blanca Hash when they are visiting and others, having run in Madrid, come back when the Madrid Hash have their annual Hash in Javea.

Re: Happy Birthday John Hopgood.

Thanks to all. Not a great one for parties but arranged a get together in a local bar for friends, both Valencian and Brits from the village, and some from the Hash group I run with. About 30 in total with beer, wine and tapas, so a good time was had by all. You would not have thought that a lot hap...

Re: Strange old man dressed in WW1 army gear / dog named lobster

From recent memory, nothing has replaced these open air toilets. The library now has a rear entrance, presumably from the back of the Dominions Library, which extends into the car park. This entrance was used by CHOBA on a recent OB day.

Re: History of the Band

" The Liberty Bell " which was written by John Philip Sousa. Yes - It was played and marched too during my time at CH, which was pre Monty Python, hence no silly walks/marches. The playing of Glen Millers version of St Louis Blues March was frowned upon though by band master Mr Bailey . Not sure wh...

Re: Boys’ favourite books (& their pages) in the CH Library

Slightly off topic but to get off CCF and Other similar activities, I was part of the team to classify the books according to the Dewey Decimal System.
Big mistake, as I spent more time browsing or reading then classifying.

It maybe but I believe Matthew Holdsworth is administrator, (and main input on this subject), so I am sure he would let you in.

Re: CH San

Found the letter from Patrick Field (PeB37-44) in articles on D Day at CH in the summer 2004 OB. Basically confirms Flecker but refers to Infirmary as Infirmary (not Sanatorium) and does not mention that it is a temporary San. Mrs Robisnon had a cut hand (not lip). He also mentions windows broken in...

Re: CH San

Surely "sanatorium" has a meaning very close to hospital which could be translated as our "sicker". Might be worth exploring from that angle. It was a 2004 OB which I don't have in front of me at the moment. However, the letter definitely differentiated between San and Infirmary. (Typical. I saved ...

CH San

I was browsing through one of the first OB's i edited, and came across correspondence from OB's who had been at CH around D Day. One mentions a flying bomb that blew of the roof of the San and ruined the nearby masters garages. It was apparently close to the infirmary which survived. I assume it was...

Re: Should Christ's Hospital Stop Being a Faith School?

In the mid/late fifties confirmation was just about compulsory unless you were of a different faith. That is certainly not true. Not the slightest pressure was put on me to be confirmed. It was not even casually suggested, and no one thought it odd that I wasn't. (As it happened, I had been baptise...

Re: Did You Learn to Swear at CH? And Do You Still Eff It Today?

I actually got ejected from a language laboratory since I didn't realise that the teacher could listen in. She complained that I was not speaking Spanish nor acceptable English Reminds me; at work I had to learn Llanito which is pretty close to Andaluz Spanish. However I was warned never ever to us...
