Re: Shelagh Regester

Shelagh started at C.H. in 1966. She was in House Four during all her time at the school. One of her good friends in Fours was Julie Stones. Bessie ( Miss Summers) was the Housemistress at that time. She did not have different colour eyes and she was never known as " Tubby". There is no con...

Re: Shelagh Regester

If I come to the forum, I come straight to the Hertford bit...hardly ever go over there but thanks for letting us know. It's nice for the Hertford posters to immediately find stuff relevant to their schooldays.

Telegraph obits give details of Shelagh's Funeral next Tuesday.

Re: CH food

I loved sausage hotpot, but don't think this recipe is quite right. I'll accept kidney beans in place of the macaroni, but potatoes on top (with crunchy bits) are essential. I loved sausage hotpot ,too, Mary ( Hi Mary xx). Jacquie Tomlinson ( 3s same time as we were in Sixes ) told me fairly recent...

Re: Books studied in English

But who could forget 'Lord of the Flies' and 'Animal Farm'? Or have these been mentioned already? Oops ! obviously I could forget them, Mary ! Actually, of all the books we studied , they were my least favourite. I wasn't interested in Pigs and Horses speaking, or the political ramifications . At t...

Re: Books studied in English

Love the story about the school surveyor ! Unfortunately, he somehow never crossed my orbit ! He sounds more like a Mr Darcy than a Mr Rochester. I loved "My Family and Other Animals" and, as a teenager, read every single word of every single Gerald Durrell book ( that was a lot of books)....

Re: RIP Phyllis Riddiford

Somewhat belatedly , I would like to add Phyllis Riddeiford's Hertford Choral Society's obituary. Thankyou Jo for the link. Miss Riddiford was a nice, enthusiastic lady...I remember her smiling and singing with gusto in the choir stalls in chapel. We affectionately called her " The purple heade...

Re: TWO deaths : Betty Jukes and Jean Taverner

Hi Everybody, So sorry to hear about the passing of two of our never to be forgotten teachers. I remember Miss Jukes as hard working and dedicated and some of her recipes absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I am by nature a very spontaneous and experimental type of person and was unable to always fo...

Re: Jean Kierans

Hi Caroline, I will pass on your message. So sorry to have missed you the last time you were here. Apart from Siobhan and Jean's family, I'll probably see Munch and Penny Manning there and a few others. I hope my short tribute to Jean was suitable. Love to you and your family and assorted pets. xxxx

Hi Lushabelle , I saw your photo a few years ago in the CHOGA magazine ( I think it was ) looking quite radiant amidst a group of male Kiwi Blues. Are you back in England ?...Chandlers Ford...as I remember all those years ago? Good to hear from you. Maureen Connor posted here some time ago. I rememb...

Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread

"particularly as regards health" How did the abolition of Chapel caps affect our HEALTH ? DR did seem to have a habit of objectifying us in "Half To Remember" mmm...we were to be "experimented"with . Nice pic of a Chapel Cap, Mary. Shame about that lovely "Arts an...

Hi Everybody ! Thought I'd pop by and I spotted this jolly thread. Much love to all....it's like a Travelodge Reunion here ! I teach overseas students English. Two of my South American girls ( well women...and Colombian to be precise) are "Coronation Street" addicts and have a habit of usi...
