Re: MOSCOW - small work opportunity

Paddy,

Yes. I have a very good friend living within a stone's throw from Red Square. Please feel free to send me a PM with the details and I'll see what he can do.

Aussie Old Blue

Just a note to those that I know on this forum to say that my family and I are now settled in Sydney, Australia. I am presently serving as a Captain in the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and proudly wear my slouch hat at a suitably rakish angle. I am still an Englishman after all. If a...

Blue Sierra man was true. As far as I recollect he was detained by teachers after hitting one of the LE from LaB during lunch parade. I was a squit in LaB and remember the excitement it caused. I think the police arrested him - anyhow and it was sort of hushed up, more so that we weren't scared than...

Several things on this thread spring to mind: 1. Being sprung from my dorm by some Grecian girls from Barnes A (God Bless Them!) on my LE to witness the 'last night', and seeing Gladings' mini get the treatment. 2. The effect of the 'Stonehenge' wardrobe display a year or two before I left. 3. But f...

Hello Deb, I remember you telling me about that wind up. As I recall at the time it was the Barnes A voodoo plot!! To add to the thread: All I remember about the chaplain's is that: Kate Powell had a really unfortunate haircut (bowel!!!) and in '91 referred to Idi Amin in a prayer when she meant to ...

Much to the continuing mirth of all the Iraqis I meet, they seem to think I look like Hussein Ferme. Probably means as much to you as it did to me, but apparently he is some Egyptian actor. Anyway, it causes much amusement, and as is their want, whispering and pointing. 10 Housey points for the firs...

Without wishing to belittle England's little heatwave, out here in Iraq at the moment it is 48 - 51 C every day. We do understand how it must be in the UK though.... it does drop to 35 degrees at night! We have BFBS TV out here including Sky News. I won't write here the average soldier's comment to ...

Panic over! May I just thank everyone for racking their brains to help. Emirates has just sent me an e-mail offering a free hotel room for the night, and after two months in Iraq it would be unfair of me to turn it down in favour of imposing my sweaty, smelly self on some poor unsuspecting stranger....

Does anyone live in Dubai?

I was wondering if anyone lives in Dubai and if so, if they would be able to offer an Old Blue a bed for the night. I am currently serving on a seven month tour of Southern Iraq with the Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry. My wife decided that staying with her parents in Brisbane would be a damn s...

She was only the vicar's daughter,
And he know that he shouldn't aught'er
Be he went and did,
She had a kid
And marched him straight up to the alter

Well, it's a small world. Col Toffer is my CO and I am currently serving under him in the DDLI in Al Faaw, Southern Iraq. Right, to answer the previous question. The best point of contact is to speak to your School Liaison Officer who can set up visits to different Regiments and sponser you to atten...

OK. I think people may have to go some to beat this: Two years ago at my Regiment's Officer's Association Dinner in London I randomly (no seating plan) sat next to a veteren who had served in the Regiment during the 50s. It turned out that he had commanded 8 Platoon of which I was then commander (co...
