definately in chapel - brass is on the gallery above the door. At 2min is MaineB as I recognise Giles Drinkall who was my year, I (along with Craig) joined in Sep 82 and it looks like it was taken in our 2nd form. 2.09 looks like Anthony Tomkins in the glasses (he is now a rocket scientist and aviat...

Re: Horsham Speech Day 1974
in 1984 we were invited to the Hertford Speech Day which I think was held soemtime in May and so not too close to A level exams. The Head Girl at the time did a flawless oration ans sadly two months later I was unable to match her prowess. I fluffed a few lines but having just finished my last A le...

Re: Early Lent Half Term
one of the things i liked most about ch was the equality - being in the same uniform sleeping in the same circumstances etc meant that there was no snobbery. It wasn't until the UF that people started talking about clothes and stereos etc and by then friendship groups were already pretty set in ston...

Re: Early Lent Half Term
As for the rest... I would infinitely prefer weekly boarding and I know my DS would absolutely jump for joy. I also note that ealier in this thread someone expressed concern about making up the lost time due to the weeks swine flu closure. The reply was that CH also works on Saturdays so can make u...

Re: Early Lent Half Term
Ian, you have a bl**dy good memory!!!! Hey I can remember the len cummings and tim slater were in Colb with me for exams and Len decided to call me clown. I remember there being some kind of partitioned off bit of dorm with windows and a bed inside - roughly where we had the civvies & best coat...

Re: So, the underground tunnels...
my dad was in the observer corps as he was a trained gpo technician who had done cadets and each post had to have a telecoms guy to maintain the comms frame. I have memories of being about 6 or 7 and going down the 4 man bunker on top of Den Hill in Horsham. I recently found some pictures of it on t...

Living in Reading I can confirm the route contains No muddy hill, No brambly ditch, No shelly's wood and no Sharpenhurst, there is however a railway so not all your experience will be wasted

Re: Early Lent Half Term
in 1981 the exams were split into part a & part b. Presentees only had to complete part a. competitive had to complete A & B in the same time. You came one lunchtime did a 1.5 hour exam slept over another exam in morning, then various aptitude tests and interviews (mine was with O'Meara), th...

Re: Early Lent Half Term
I went to Slinfold primary where Denise Sillett was dep head which is how I came to be entered for CH, we lived between Itchingfield and Slinfold - and I boarded in the 80's. Not only that but until my Grecians I NEVER went home other than leave days even though it was closer than Horsham. I liked t...

Re: Deputy Grecian 2010
I would also suggest unless things have changed a fairly unbreakable and distinctly coloured mug, it will get knocked off a desk, side or windowsill and it needs to be spotable from 10 yards. I would also suggest a small lock up box as although in the 80's thievery was rare it is still nice to have ...

I know it was Bob Hailey as I had him for French on the 2nd form and that cemented the memory. I didn't see the tube until we started. i do remember Len Cummings and Tim Slater from the exams though - strange how some people stick in your head. Sending off the little slip today to book our place at ...

Wasn't postponed in 81 when the snow was as deep and the exams were over 3 days. I was luckily in ColB but remember falling over heavily next to the common room on ice. I too used to help with exams as i lived near Slindfold, I think I helped for at least 3 years in LHB under Bob Sillett when it was...

Re: End of term packing
If I remember rightly in LHB in the early 80's we were allowed to leave things in the civvies room during the holidays as it was locked. LHA I think we had to bring everything home and as by then the girls had come and we had moved to Duvet's in senior houses that included duvet & covers. Used t...
