AUSTRALIAN TOUR

I note with interest the forthcoming tour of Australia, which involves 9 (nine) adults and 56 (fifty-six) pupils from 21 July to 13 August (23 days Heathrow-Oz-Heathrow). Does anyone know how this is being financed - how much parents are paying, etc?

Re: Fabian Stedman

As you say, it's most likely that he was not an Old Blue -
Just to clarify, what I meant was that it did not necessarily follow that, because he left money to Housie, he must have been an Old Blue. I could not speculate on the likelihood, one way or another.

Re: Fabian Stedman

Mary, The pre-1902 CH records are held in the Manuscript Section of the Guildhall Library. The staff there are extremely helpful and will do some research for you if you contact them by e-mail at: manuscripts.guildhall@cityoflondon.gov.uk Obviously, they don't have the time to do an in-depth study f...

Re: New Clerk

Sadly, the record is not good. The hierarchy for Old Blues is: The Clerk, Director of Development, CHA Manager, CHA Administrator. Since the CHA was set up four years ago: 1. The new Clerk arrived in a blaze of publicity and departed (for reasons never made public) after just one year. 2. The Direct...

Re: Should Christ’s Hospital Stop Being a Faith School?

Concerning which version of the Bible, there is only one woth bothering about in the English language. When I was receiving lessons from a Jesuit priest he asked if I had a Bible and I told him I did, so he asked me to bring it in next time (I think it was some sort of a test). On my producing my Ho...

Re: Should Christ’s Hospital Stop Being a Faith School?

There were certainly three Jews during the 1949-55 period, but this only became obvious to me many years later when someone mentioned them in passing. At the time it was never a matter of discussion and even if it had been mentioned I doubt that anyone would have been in the slightest bit interested...

Re: Bird Sanctuary

The name "Bird Sanctuary" rings a very, very distant bell. Can someone remind me where it was/is?

Re: PHOTOGRAPHER IN NEWBURY AREA?

Julian,
Many thanks for the offer. Huggermugger has already agreed to take it on, so I am sure it is in safe hands and, by happy chance, she lives very close to the churchyard anyway.
Will you be at OB day?

PHOTOGRAPHER IN NEWBURY AREA?

Is there an Old Blue living in or near Newbury, Berks, who would be prepared to photograph a grave in a churchyard, please? A digital picture would be preferred but a print would also be very acceptable. If so, I will provide full details of churchyard location, grave to be photographed and church o...

englishangel says: [quote][As it was wartime clothing was rationed and there was a shortage of Housey so the prep school boys didn't have it./quote] I hesitate to comment on a post by englishangel, but what she says is not completely correct. It is certainly true that all boys in the Prep wore "...

Re: Fiona Bruce at CH

I have to admit that I lost track a bit as the programme switched away from Housie rather suddenly. Is it correct that it was Fiona Bruce's father who attended the school? I thought the band was excellent but I am sure that many viewers may have ended with the impression that CH spends all its time ...

Re: Fiona Bruce at CH

its aboslutly fascinating how things you think are true about your history actually can just be folklore etc. That may be so, but there is another side to the coin and sometimes genealogical research can uncover facts about one's ancestors which would much better have remained hidden and forgotten....

Re: Fiona Bruce at CH

What hasn't Marty told us about his schooldays? This is a significant question rasing matters of the utmost complexity. I would dearly love to answer it, but first need to know: # Who was/is Marty? # What, if anything, does he have to do with Fiona Bruce? # What does Fiona Bruce have to do with CH?...

Re: Charitable status of independent schools

You are a bit behind with developments. The Clerk whose replacement is being advertised (Tuckwell) actually left some three months ago after just thirteen months in post. Since the CHA was set up three years ago under the Counting House, three CHA Managers have resigned, each after about 11-14 month...

Re: Theatre "heavy" for Blue Nights

What about when the school marches through London on St Matthew's Day or the band plays at the Menin Gate - or any other public outdoor engagement? A ban on photography would simply be impracticable. That said, I can see that taking photographs in Chapel is disresepectful. Further, musical./theatric...
