I can still remeber the pleasure of walking to Big School early in the morning just before anyone else was around, I think the lack of privacy at the school was hard to take. And the fact that I got into the Dining Hall before the rest of the pack.

Yep we pulled ! The side door at Big School on the right was left unlocked and the bell rope was placed on the right ( I think ) side of the main doors. In the same place was the fire bell and we were given a key to unlock the bell. Used to function well, only problem was when one rang three bells a...

Just how hard were the entrance exams ?

At a prep school 1968. Via the RAF offered the chance to sit for the exam in London. Much to the delight of my parents, surprise of my teachers, and later to my horror I passed.

At what level ( roughly ) were the exams ?

Col B and bell ringing.

During my time at the school it was the task of Col B to ring the bell at Big School to inform if we were to march into lunch with the band ( 3 rings without 6 rings and if raining 9 rings ). Now at breakfast the bell was rung at 7.30am but only 3 rings or 9. And at tea time the same. I remember ( b...
