Re: Chapel choir, c. 1956

Brilliant photo.
It may have been staged, but it's a class act from a pro photographer of the mid-1950s, carefully balancing available light and additional light to create a powerful yet intimate image that's full of detail.
Many thanks to eucsgmrc for posting it.

Re: What were your thoughts about the theatre?

Great to hear such positive comments about the theatre from a current pupil. I remember the excitement when the theatre first opened, circa 1974. We'd never seen anything like it! Clearly it had tremendous potential, while its ability to help further theatrical study and improve performance was obvi...

Re: What were your thoughts about the theatre?

Thanks for the update Matt. I remember all the upheaval that went into the theatre's construction in the early 1970s. Once it was finished, I thought that potentially it was a brilliant building, but badly let down by the seating, so good to hear that this was improved, and that a refurb is ongoing....

What were your thoughts about the theatre?

In a recent thread - about John Mason, Visitor 2035 and the Cain! production of 1976 - it was interesting to read people's memories of the (then) newly built theatre. I attended drama lessons and the occasional production in the theatre's first year or so, but I left in July 1975, so I don't recall ...

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. The information has now been passed on to my friend. As I said, good to clear up what has clearly been a confusion on the net. I found that people's thoughts on the (then) new theatre were interesting to read. I've started off a new thread about...

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

The man in the white suit was definitely the John Mason that I knew in the 1980s. He replaced Fruupp's original keyboardist in January 1975 and played on their fourth and final album 'Modern Masquerades'. Clearly there is a mistake on the internet, where the two names are the same, and the timeline ...

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

Thanks Spoonbill. Much appreciated. The John Mason who was the keyboardist with Fruupp (and who I knew later on in the 1980s) is pictured on this Fruupp fan site. http://www.alexgitlin.com/fruup.html He is in the third picture down, wearing a white jacket, with white trousers and blue shirt. Is this...

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

Much appreciated Andrew.
It's looking increasingly likely that there has been some confusion on the internet.

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

Thank you for your reply Phil. It's most helpful. I think it's possible that there may have been some confusion on the internet, linking Irish keyboardist John Mason (who had played with Fruupp and I got to know in the 1980s) with the Visitor 2035 project and CH. Any more information from anyone wou...

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

I'm guessing that John was a music master, but that would need confirmation.

Re: John Mason, teacher, circa 1976

Hi all, I'm trying to find out some information about John Mason, a former CH teacher, circa 1976. There have been a few posts on this forum about Cain! - the CH/Visitor 2035 production, circa 1976 - and it seems that John may have been involved in this. The production was shortly after I left CH, s...

Re: Duncan Noel-Paton [FOUND]

Funky Dunky? I was third cavalryman on the left in what I believe was DNP's first CH production, 'Indians'. Performed before the Theatre was completed (1972?), the play was presented in Big School. I remember Julian Garner (now a playwright) putting in a sterling performance in the lead role of Buff...

Re: Did You Learn to Swear at CH? And Do You Still Eff It Today?

I'm afraid to say that my time at CH gave me a solid grounding in the F word, C word and numerous other words that the forum's profanity filter will do its damnedest to clean up. Since then I have achieved a degree with honours in composite swearing. This is often heard to good effect when I'm drivi...

Re: Ghost stories etc?

Thanks for these posts...
So I was right! Peele A was in two parishes at one stage.
For a moment there I thought I was going off my bocker...
What a relief to discover that CH is now firmly in the Horsham parish.
