Re: The Pedant's Revolt
I do recall however shopping with the same friend for underwear in M&S and commenting that it seemed odd that bras with larger cup sizes always seemed to be at floor level, when surely it would be the less endowed customers who would find it easier to get down to that level to inspect the goods...

Re: HERTFORD BADGES
It really was another world. Why didn't we just wear macs when it rained and Harris tweed when it was cold?englishangel wrote:Blazers (only the one I think) weekdays and Sundays in the summer until the cherry reds came in, and macs on weekdays and Harris Tweeds on Sundays in the winter.

Re: HERTFORD BADGES
Going slightly off topic (nothing new there) - were form captains the only elected posts at Hertford?

Re: HERTFORD BADGES
When Miss West was headmistress, black and green aprons were awarded on merit, not to the whole year group, though I think this changed later. They could be taken away for bad behaviour. There were posture badges, yellow with a silver P, awarded for good posture. Maybe form captains' badges, blue wi...

Re: Facebook.
I lead a reclusive life here in Devon. How lovely to enjoy a daily conversation with HOGOFs, friends and family all on one page! A bit like the party I always want to have, but never will otherwise! I joined the HOGOF group on facebook some time ago, but there seems to be very little on it, and not...

What about Daphne du Maurier? Jamaica Inn was one of the first adult books I read, sitting by a radiator in sixes day room on a snowy Saturday afternoon. I'm not sure if I want to re-read it now, in case I'm disappointed.

How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb ? You forgot: One forum member to hijack the thread to reminisce about light bulbs at Hertford. We weren't allowed to read in bed because the light bulbs were so dim. Two forum members to reassure prospective parents that light bulbs at Ho...

Re: School Needlework
We did a sort of embroidery, involving pulling threads out of linen, and gathering the resulting loose threads together into tiny decorative bunches. Someone tell me what it's called, please. I still have the table mats I made - they've never been used. We made them in one of the lower forms, when t...

Re: Does anyone know the school latin motto?
I remember the whole school being told off by DR for not knowing the General Thanksgiving, I was mildly surprised as I had never been told to learn it. In fact, I don't think I'd even heard of it. I can remember most of it now, and love its precise language ("inestimable love..the means of grac...
