Re: Brexit

We had a retired gendarme from the diplomatic group and he was fine though everyone "respected him! Hand bigger than a dinner plate - my guess is they had to rebuild the trigger guard so he could get his finger onto the trigger. Reminds me of a story I got from one of the security personnel at...

Re: Brexit

As I think I've said before, between my wife and I, we've got first hand experience of the working/long-term visa and citizenship processes of UK, Oz, USA, and France, and while they all have their annoyances, the absolute worst, hands-down frustrating and scariest (even for a UK born cit of UK bor...

Re: Brexit

My grandson was born in County Mayo, but my son was told he was not entitled to get an Irish passport as neither of his parents were Irish. My son was born in Costa Rica, but has a British passport, and his wife is French. They got him a French passport as that was easier. To make life easier living...

Re: Just a coincidence?

A relatively recent one occurred here in Valencia. A friend from my junior school was visiting with a group of friends who had all been scouts together. I invited them for a beer and we were sitting in an outside bar. As one does, I asked where they used to live and one said he lived in a flat over ...

Re: Just a coincidence?

I am continually coming across coincidences. In fact, I wrote a letter to the Blue, many years ago before I was OB editor, about CH related coincidences. More recent ones concern my birth date, where there are two women in the village, one a local and the other a Brit who has a house there, and a go...

Re: Alternative Maine A House Photo Early 1960s

Lots of familiar faces but time has erased the names from my memory.
I believe second row two from right is Geoff Bostock, who then came to Barnes B.
Five in from right on fourth row looks like JM Lloyd. Geoff Fordham must be close by as would be Isaacs.

Re: A question regarding a punishment book

As a contemporary of Dennis, I am not sure that a conscious decision was taken that it was "unhygienic." When I arrived in CH, and I think for the first two years, we had PE in the break between the first two periods in the morning and the second two. This took place an all days except Wed...

John Hopgood (previous post) looks like having been at CH during the time of all the Maine A Pratt boys.
Remembered the name but not the detail. Not surprising with so many of them.

Re: Geoff Fordham RIP

It is always upsetting to see that a contemporary has moved on. I remember Geoff, who must have been in a lot of my classes before GE, but it was always Lloyd and Fordham, almost like twins. As they were in Maine A, there was a certain amount of friendly? rivalry. I have a feeling he was at the 50th...

Re: Films at CH, 1956-1960

I have now found one of these, for the summer term of 1960. Click this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16rORDFdHB_hRa559PuErKf5-O0VwnWQP/view?usp=sharing Yes, brilliant find! A couple of observations: - No half-term week around late May or early June? - The calendar days/dates are the same as...

Re: How Much Kit Brought Down From Newgate Street Still Exists?

Hmmmm! Methinks there is a fundamental misunderstanding here. Rockfreak says: " I never knew that Kit was around in the days of Newgate Street ." This obviously assumes that the 'Kit' in the title refers to the late Kit Aitken former housemaster of ColA. This simply can't be true as Kit (...
