Re: Roger Allam in Radio Times

I imagine he would think of himself principally as a stage actor, but in terms of TV in the last decade his roles in Endeavour and Ashes to Ashes immediately spring to mind.

Re: Roger Allam in Radio Times

One of the things I like about this forum is the way topics are allowed to veer off track, however I can't help feeling we've had this conversation about charity status numerous times on other threads over the last decade and more. Does anyone know how much Roger Allam's parents paid towards his fee...

Re: Roger Allam in Radio Times

One of my favourite actors; I confess I'm extremely envious. He was several years ahead of me at CH, but I have a clear memory, which has stayed with me, of him singing "In the Bleak Midwinter" as a tenor in the choir when I was a treble. It made quite an impression, so I'm hoping I won't ...

There's an extremely poor taste joke there somewhere...

Re: Disabilities 50s, 60s

The nearest thing I remember to a disability was one lad who suffered from epilepsy, and I wasn't aware of that until he had a fit in the Avenue one day. That would have been in the early 70s, I think.

Re: Article about the Tube

Yes, fascinating. I can clearly recall the musty smell of the Tube after all these years, and I also seem to remember quite a lot of puddles. EDIT: on the subject of tunnels, I used to live in a house at the foot of the White Cliffs of Dover directly beneath Dover Castle. There was a bricked-up entr...

Re: Pocket money, Nausea and more

Oh gawd, the pre-first term John Lewis shopping trip. It must have almost bankrupted my parents, though I didn't realise it at the time. I can picture my blue trunk now with no effort at all. I can even see the lining. But for the life of me, I have no idea what happened to it after I left! Shame, i...

Jings, I hope that's not true! I rarely sleep more than 4 hours straight these days, so I'm up at silly o'clock on a daily basis.

Re: Morton Peto

Crap, that's sad news. He clearly didn't waste his life, making a major contribution, and died way too young. As have a surprising number of my contemporaries. Sincere condolences to his family.

Re: Morton Peto

^^I agree, I have only vague memories of the Petos, including their daughter and the OB she married, so nothing of interest to post, but I can't imagine there being anything remotely scurrilous to post and I'd hate to think that Avon's or Comenius' posts could be misinterpretd.

Re: Black Lives Matter

I've used Firefox as my main browser for a number of years, and I've never looked at the 'recommended' articles, at least not until you mentioned it. There are 21 on offer, none of which are remotely controversial, unless you consider kombucha tea (whatever that is), VJ Day and Cajun seasoning contr...

Re: English Exceptionalism

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Is it that the English are the only nation to typecast or make fun of other nationalities? Surely not... As a rosbif/pom/limey/sasannach/etc. you must know better. Not to mention the wide variety of names we call each other: Tyke/Brummie/Manc/Janner. If...
