Re: Swine flu - school closing for a week

Yes - my DS said there were "loads" of the staff down with it. I have to say I'm quite pleased he's coming home - an unexpected pleasure!

Think it's a bit late to stop it from spreading all over the country - it's already here....

Swine flu - school closing for a week

I had a call from my DS earlier today to tell me that I will have to go and pick him up tomorrow as the school is closing for a week due to over 100 kids having swine flu... wasn't absolutely sure whether this was a vicious rumour but have checked the school website just now and it is on there under...

Re: New Official CH Parents Forum

Various members of staff (of varying seniority) are aware that I use this forum and indeed are in the habit of reading it themselves from time to time. I have never had any negative comments from them or attempt to dissuade me using it. I do feel the need to be careful of revealing too much about my...

Re: PAT Testing

I remeber a blanket PAT fee as well, but I think that just applies to the Michelmas term. A while ago we had a letter re: ICT equipment which said (you should) "ensure the equipment has a current (hah!) PAT certificate. The school does normally carry out a testing regime in the Michelmas term. ...

Re: What Doesn't Happen At CH These Days?

Whatever next? Fleecy-lined underpants ...... No need for those, as the boys now have comfy moleskin breeches, not the itchy woollen ones of the past! Well, my DS had a pair of the woollen ones last year... we considered various options as they drove him crazy. Finally replaced when his legs were r...

Re: Helpful Tips for New Parents please!!!

We all count the days until the first leave weekend, even when they're in their third year.... but good luck, hope your DS settles in OK and keep us posted! This forum was a lifeline for me in the early days.

Re: 09/10 Financial Contributions

Another thought - I agree with Action Man's comments. It is slightly bizarre to simply hope that "the powers that be" or members of relevant departments will read what is written here and take it on board. Letters should and must be written and maybe the whole thing does have to be widened...

Re: 09/10 Financial Contributions

I too have noticed the absence of the "assessed income" figure - I think it was missing last year, for the first time. I agree with the worry over the apparent lack of transparency over how the figures are arrived at. Mine's a pretty straightforward case, I think, and I was able to work ou...

Re: Helpful Tips for New Parents please!!!

One thing you should know is that things do vary from House to House. They do tend to operate semi-autonomously and often have different practices & traditions which is good on one level I suppose. They are supposed to be like families and all families tend to have their own rules. But it makes ...

YadaYada - My advice is to take some. We were issued with some in the second year but they went "missing" fairly quickly.

Re: Helpful Tips for New Parents please!!!

Been thinking about this. My best all-time tip is... Stay Cheerful - particularly when you're on the phone to your DS or DD. I don't mean wilfully ignoring obvious unhappiness but whatever you do, don't weep down the phone or go over the top on the "missing you" stakes. I'll never forget t...

Re: New sports kit list

I'm feeling a bit lucky - I've managed to get away with buying almost nothing for this year - DS needed a new pair of football boots but we were given some by a friend which don't have too much wear on them. He would really like a new pair but as I don't work a lot in the holidays so that we can spe...

Re: Not wanting to go back - is this common?

Think you're already reassured that it can and does happen - tho am not really sure how reassuring that actually is.... My DS (going back into LE this year) has said pretty much the same things tho almsot alays when he's been tired. He has also been a lot more grumpy generally this summer but partic...
