If I wanted to go visit CH these days, would I be able to pose as someone else on reporting to security? Or do they demand ID, to prevent Gary Glitter wandering around the premises willy nilly?

Puke Fight!
Were you ever in a really evil no-holds-barred dust-up? Did you come out on top or get beaten senseless and spat on? Did it make a man of you? And girls: were there epic cat-fights, with biting, scratching and gouging? Are you scarred for life? Did you get a reputation as a psycho? Boring old me, I ...

Yup, all new coats are made with this style collar to stop the kids from having their bands undone! Time I was dead and buried. I always thought the houseycoat was sacrosanct (well, at least after they got rid of the petticoat and put a yellow lining in the coat instead). But no. I'm guessing they'...

Grecians' Club Dances: An Ordeal or a Pleasure?
I only went to one Grecians' Club Dance and it was a ****ing nightmare. There were way more blokes than there were girls (imported from two minor girls' public schools for the evening), which meant the girls all plumped for the chiselled-jawed School Monitor types and the rest of us got spurned. Oh,...

I was really glad I missed the mixed-sex CH era by about five years (?). I found it hard enough to concentrate on school work at the best of times, without wimmin on the premises. And I bet the guys did act up, shoving each other around and trying to make each other look stoopid in front of the gurl...

Hmmmm.... You want sweeping generalisations? You got 'em. (Like Spoonbill, this is 1970s vintage.) Ba.A. Night of the Living Dead. (The staff were creeps as well.) Ba.B. Psychopathic killers with a mental age of 5. Ma.A. Were only allowed to play classical music on the house record-player, the poor ...

What I found really goosebump-inducing was taking a job in a hospital some years ago and discovering that there was a basement-level corridor running the length of the place which smelt exactly like the Tube. Bone dry it may have appeared; 1970s vintage it definitely was. But it whiffed just like th...

Sneaking off to the Cowsheds/Cut/Bird Sanctuary/Garages etc.
As a (for the most part) non-smoker, I always found it difficult to understand why smokin' folks kept on going to the notoriously well-known smoking venues when it stood to reason they'd get busted on a regular basis. And why the hell were the Cowsheds called cowsheds anyway, when they were merely a...

When I was a junior, our housemaster banned Sven Hassell novels (on the grounds that they weren't quite the thing) and also the News of the World (which I think was a wise move, since it encourages morons to think of all coppers as bent, all clergyman as hypocrites, etc., etc. and to relish seeing p...

Roland Rat, Old Blue?
I've recently been given to understand that Sam Davies, the voice of 1980s TV-AM megastar Roland Rat ('Ngyeeeaaahh!'), is/was an Old Blue. He apparently now lives in semi-retirement/retardment in Pembrokeshire. Does this info ring a bell with anyone? And were any other TV flagship puppets at CH in y...

I was a cow (in CH terminology) and for all my junior years I had to put up with the whole Milky-Moo routine, plus jokes about Milky Bars, Milk Tray, Milk Gums etc. and of course getting my chests groped and squeezed like mad all the time. I just rolled with the punches y'know, but was glad to becom...
