when they televise the Remembrance Day service on the BBC most of the army musicians are wearing gloves (not that you get oboes in army marching bands). I used to wear fingerless gloves in winter at CH for lunch parade as it would be freezing. I tried wearing gloves with the band I now play in at th...

I've just redone the band's website, and although a few amendments are needed and some better photos added, here it is: http://www.southwarkconcertband.org.uk/

thanks!

I vaguely remember this or my memory's playing tricks on me, plus I think it was done for 'the Scottish play' when I was at CH.

I do remember as younger teenager dad coming back from school morning after grecians ball and what they had gotten up to-getting band instruments out etc. we played a rather bad version of retreat and a parade down the avenue on our last night. nothing like playing marches completely drunk, I recko...

That's so sad. Ann really was such an important part of the band 'family' that existed when David was bandmaster. Always made us welcome at their home. An intrinsic part of my band memories. Not to mention ensuring the drummers white golves were always immaculate! My deep condolences to Lizzy and We...

Good luck with the business. I do hope you're using Sobek in the way the people of Egypt worshiped him to gain his protection and strength, and not reviling him and killing the crocodiles of the area because of the evil that they could do :?

When I was at CH we had Rev Gary Dobbie (he appears to be at Shrewsbury School now). All I remember is his mad dog (Hugo?), and him once saying that he always took his glasses off when speaking in Chapel so as to not see us all looking bored! He used to take cross country running if I remember corre...

yes DC is just boys. however I wouldn't assume it automatically means they have twice the number of boys available for rugby. the College doesn't seem as big as CH, although of course many of it's pupils aren't boarders.

I live very near Dulwich College and you can see the pupils practising rugby all spare hours of the day. It's no wonder they're good given the effort they put in.

I suspect CH develops other areas of pupil's lives a bit more than DC does?

Sorry Hendik, I can't agree with anything you wrote above. You must have had an easy time at CH ! I can still hear the whistle of the cane before it made contact with my breeches ! Which really proves the point I have made elsewhere. Those who are subjected to violence etc. are the very ones who be...
