Hertford Art Project

A Hertford Old Blue has suggested the idea of us contributing memorabilia from Hertford and having some current pupils make it up into a collage or artwork. There is obviously Hertford stuff in the CH Museum but the idea is that this project would involve current pupils in learning more about Hertfo...

Re: The Making of Them by Nick Duffel

I agree there is a Hertford/Horsham divide here. Although I don't feel particularly damaged by my experience at Hertford now, and I wasn't desperately unhappy at the time, I went through a long period of anger after I left, when I came to realise that the treatment at Hertford was not right or norma...

Re: Kerren Simmonds is in hospital

Thank you for the update Chrissy - I was really sorry I couldn't make it but I have a lot going on with work and other things at the moment, and sadly have had a number of family and friends' funerals already recently. It sounds from all accounts as though everyone gave her a terrific send-off.

Re: Kerren Simmonds is in hospital

I'm delighted you've been asked to speak - though obviously sad that it is necessary in the first place - Kerren mentioned you often and I know you were very close. I'm afraid I don't have any special tales to tell - I didn't know Kerren at school but have only got to know her over the past five yea...

Re: Kerren Simmonds is in hospital

Oh, how awful. RIP Kerren indeed. Her illness had seemed so complicated, and life would have been difficult for her, but nevertheless I'm very sorry to hear the news.

Re: 2013 !!

And a Happy New Year from me too, over here in the Land of Smiles. Am slowly ploughing my way through what must be a year's worth of posts, looking at both the happy news and the sad. Michael Carrington gone, but he must have achieved a good age after a most worthy life. Kerren ill, I do hope she's...

Re: Kerren Simmonds is in hospital

Thanks for continuing to let us have updates Chrissy. A couple of us are keeping her "CH ladies" Facebook friends updated, and I know everyone there is thinking of her and hoping her condition improves.

Re: Non-Church of England OBs

Perhaps someone can write further about Deech and Levin, or recount something of other OB members of these and other minority religions. Why? I certainly cannot recall any pupils of the Jewish faith in my time. I believe one or two Catholics were transported to Horsham for services. I think it pret...

Re: Non-Church of England OBs

I don't claim to be a distinguished OB by any measure you would care to mention, but even whilst at CH I was already an atheist. That may not fit the definition of minority religion, and I know atheism tends to be seen by the religious as an absence of something, even a vacuum, but for me it is a po...

Re: "Guests" of HM

I'd forgotten about him. I did his obituary in the Spring 2010 issue of The Old Blue. His prison sentence would have been in the early 50s, probably at Her Majesty's Pleasure. Quite a colourful character, founded his own publishing house (Quartet) which was responsible for The Joy of Sex.

Re: All Out!

Well, I'd have to disagree with both of you. I hated most sport at school and found it thoroughly humiliating. There was no bullying, admittedly, but I remember the ignominy of always being picked last for team games, having to lumber round on the hockey and netball pitches, having absolutely no co-...
