I seem to remember the 'Phallic' came from the noise he used to make when deeply inhaling cigarette smoke. sharply breething in through almost clenched lips. A sort of ph-hiss !

Well, there goes my old theory about the name!

The most prolific smoker had to be 'Phal' Matthews, the science teacher.

Official photo archive?

Is there anywhere (Museum, official archives etc.) that keeps copies of the old house photos, and are they available? I certainly never kept any of mine, but it would be interesting to see some of them again.

Re: Windows Scam warning

Do you not have a “Do not Call” list in the UK. This is one of the best pieces of legislation here: since it went into effect, unwanted calls virtually stopped (if they don’t, you can get $$$ from the company).

As a 'Before', I can't really say ! I also have to wonder if the results of the Bristol survey that OBs survive longer (on average) were affected by the necessary high degree of fitness enforced at CH. F? I have a friend who is an exercise physiologist, whose research is on the lifetime effects of ...

I have often wondered just how bad the classrooms smelled with several dozen sweaty and unwashed teenagers following PT. Obviously we didn’t notice it, but I wonder about the effect it might have had on some of the teachers.

Re: Swabs

I swabbed for a Grecial named Flyyn, who was one of the first one year exchange student from America. Sept 1960 to summer 1961 we had an exchange student who "introduced" basketball to Housie to the extent that the gym seemed to be in constant use every weekend. Can you remember who he wa...

Try living in the States without insurance and you will become great admirers of the British health system in a hurry. My son had a fit in Manhattan and was rushed to the hospital part of an Ivy League Uni; he had no ID or papers with him. In 3 hours they did an MRI scan, treated him and got him in...

Re: The Housey Special

As I lived in Brighton, I was always going the other way. The train was the Sharpenhurst Flyer, an old steam train that stopped at every station and halt along the way. Once I had a bike, it was far quicker to cycle home than take the train
