Re: Matron memories

Neill the Notorious: "I'm 81 ------- and I ain't dead yet !"
Reminds me of the the late, great Mae West.
Questioner: "How do you know if a man is thinking of sex?"
Mae West: "Is he still breathing?"

Re: DARRELL P. GARDNER

J.R. has "...been wracking my brains for 12 hours..." This is a process that worries me greatly, as I can't understand why he should be turning his brain into seaweed. Of course, if he was extending his brain by "racking" it, that would be quite a different matter! PS. Pe...

AUSTRALIA TRIP

Now that the party is safely back from Oz - 56 pupils, ten teachers, 23 days, I am told - can anyone tell me what it cost? How much did individual pupils/teachers pay, for example?

Michael scuffil says: "No, I meant back row. In 1963 or 64, the final years before the change to senior and junior houses, all the back row (top-tablers) would have been deps and grecians. Many of this back row look like 14-year-olds." I apologise- you are quite correct. I have checked wit...

Councerning Douai, I beleieve that you will find that the school moved from France to England in 1903 (for the reasons you give) but that it closed in 1999.

Re: Middleton B House Photos

This is the Middleton B house photograph for 1939, which was found in the Museum in the course of other research. It is well before even my time, but the one name I can place is Michael Evans, who is in the third row from the front, centre, peering over the housemaster's head. He left the schoool in...

Re: Science Day

Lonelymum is correct - I was referring to the nearest railway station to the Billingshurst Five Oaks Travelodge - which, by the way, is well outside Billingshurst and nobody I have spoken to knows where the five oaks trees were - or if, indeed, they existed in the first place. I have another piece o...

Re: Science Day

Is it easy to get to CH from there via public transport? (I don't drive) Sorry, but if you do not drive, then best forget it. The nearest station is Billingshurst, and that is a taxi ride away. You would also need a taxi (or a lift from another Old Blue) to get to and from the school. So, all in al...

Re: Science Day

Jo, Somewhere to stay. I recommend the Billingshurst Five Oaks Travelodge. It is no more than three miles from the school, mostly along very quiet back roads. It is a bit pricey if you stay on your own, cheaper if there are two, and there are frequent discounts if you book well ahead. Parking is no ...

MIDDLETON B: 1938-42

Does anybody, by any remote chance, have a House photograph of Middleton B taken between 1938 and 1942, please? If so, please contact me and we can work out how to send me a copy.
This is required for a research project into Michael George EVANS, who was killed on 16 December 1942.
