The seven could also refer to the seven hills of Jerusalem. Revelation is widely interpreted as peice of subversive, anti-Roman literature, rather than an end-times vision. The whore of Babylon (for Babylon read Rome - the two were synonymous in contemporaneous judeochristian texts) rides a monster ...

I can clearly remember Ken Grimshaw showing me one of the old Maine B punishment books in his study in 1990/1991. I think he may have been the last person to record a punishment in that book, and it may have travelled with him when he left. We had asked him about corporal punishment and the book was...

I'm back in the UK at the mo and saw the ads for C.I.N. (although I didn't see the thing itself). I would have said Sophie Raworth in a bubble bath looked a little more exciting than Marty's honey.

Excellent quote from November's VIZ, in the top tips section:

Isn't it ironic that those who call for the reintroduction of hanging are the same people who say of paedophiles and killers, "hanging is too good for them". Why won't they make up their right-wing minds?

:D

If in doubt ask them to say "about". A Canadian will always respond aboot. Unless they're French Canadian of course.

I don't know why this is though.

Surely as society has punished him he has paid his debt, the slate is clean and he is therefore entitled to treatment in his local hospital? If I was a victim of crime and took further action against the perpetrator once they had served their punishment I would be prosecuted. Again. I understand yo...

Absolutely! I've just read the thread through from start to finish - and indeed recorded my vote. As far as the hip operation is concerned, I see that there are are two issues which in my view are unrelated. 1. The guy needs an operation which it is his right to have as quickly and as conveniently ...

It never happened in the 90's - I think it has only been reintroduced in the last 5 years or so. I think it still existed in the early 90s as I seem to remember being forced to sing (which I can't do) some annoying tunes. Those awful rehearsals in house being watched over by power-hungry Grecians ....

Ariel, have you considered making a visit to CH? You could speak to some of the students (the vast majority of whom I expect share your feelings on religion and compulsory chapel) and you could even attend a chapel service. I understand your position with regards chapel; it's not the content but the...

My mother has brown eyes, my father has blue eyes as do I and my sister although my brother has brown eyes It's a little more complicated than a straigh...

Interesting little debate that you have going here. I'm drawn to both sides of this one. I certainly think that it is a little presumptuous to accept one person's bad reaction to cannabis as a generalization regarding its effects. It sounds to me like the girl in question may have had a preexisting ...

Only, I believe, if the egg has been fertilized prior to storage by the partner's sperm. Although I may be wrong on that one.
