Re: Music recommendations
On the subject of radio, you might be interested in Radio Garden. The green dots on this Google Earth map represent radio stations all over the world. Click on any one of the dots and you will immediately hear that station with very good reception. For example, halfway up Ireland's east coast, there...

Bohemian members of staff
From another thread, re Nell Todd: In spite of my criticism, I agree that she was a pleasant person and clearly the only staff member who could be considered a Bohemian. Her clothing was colourful, always loose and often peasant-like in style. However most striking was her décolleté. "Her décol...

Re: Was Rock 'n' Roll Banned at CH in the Fifties?
Well, whither Craig Douglas now? In a wheelchair, apparently, but still performing until comparatively recently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Douglas He continues to perform, with bookings at night clubs and on cruise ships.[1] Until 2010, Douglas toured venues across the UK, including the M...

Old and New London by Walter Thornbury
While temporarily distracted from work (I have no idea how that happened...), I came across Old and New London vol. 2, by Walter Thornbury (Originally published by Cassell, Petter & Galpin, London, 1878). Chapter XLVI is devoted, in considerable detail, to CH. I'm sure it's known to many of you,...

Re: Brexit
Bells is fine if you like a wee dram in your coffee now and then... Morrisons invariably have a couple of decent single malts on offer at around £20-23, and Amazon, would you believe, recently had a very attractive offer for a bottle of Jura delivered to your door! Effortless Hebridean bliss...

Re: Ernest Christopher "Kit" Aitken
All of this is so much more interesting than the bare bones. I love the idea that in 1938 Kit could just pop over to Kingston for a few weeks to visit his brother. I dare say he spent longer travelling there and back than he did in Kingston!

Re: Ernest Christopher "Kit" Aitken
Further to the above, Ancestry.com has a record of Kit arriving at Bristol on the SS Ariguani - travelling 1st class... - from Kingston Jamaica on 12 September 1938. Address, the Vicarage, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. I have a screenshot of the page, but can't post it.

Re: Ernest Christopher "Kit" Aitken
My only memory of Kit is of him getting around on his single-pedal bicycle. In my day the story was that he had lost his leg in a plane crash returning to England at the end of the war.

Re: Britt or European
How one identifies nationally is an interesting question. I consider myself to be British even though I also hold Irish nationality. I live in England and both my parents were born in England but I don't particular identify as English, and I was born overseas in Malta. As time goes by I am increasi...

Re: Covid 19 Hardship Fund
I don't argue with many of those BUT do they really need a new drama building - was Big School not enough? Will getting up and spouting on a stage help the average Joe? That actually turned me off speaking for life which I have found a major detriment but do they care? No. Seriously? The theatre wa...
