Re: The January Tests
Good luck to your daughter, cupcakemom, hope she gets in. My son is similar. If he gets a question he struggles on, he keeps on struggling and then just gets cross. I will take your advice and tell him to just move on, and maybe come back to that one if he has time. Not till November this year thoug...

Re: The January Tests
Thanks, that really answers my question. Glad to know tutoring will make no difference as it means don't have to do it!!!! Yes! The only reason I would consider tutoring is thinking that other parents would be doing it anyway, and not wanting my child to be at a disadvantage. Yes, I think kids shoul...

Re: The January Tests
Mostly I'm just curious as to what lies ahead as the school have already said you can't practise for them anyway.

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
That sounds more like it. I am not sure how you could heavily tutor my son! He is so stubborn and if he doesn't want to do something he can be very difficult. We just coast along really. Luckily he seems to like Maths, but is not nearly so keen in actually putting pen to paper! ANd I despair sometim...

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
We went when Jake was a Year 4, so he could be motivated by having seen it, which he was. He really liked it. The head of maths and english were both in Big School answering questions so I decided to ask what level they needed, expecting it to be a level 5. It WAS very daunting when he said level 6....

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
So, do you think the exam is like the one they give as an example?
Is that the level of difficulty of the November one or the January one, did your son say Hebe?

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
Hi Wurzel, yes that was fairly helpful. How taxing is the exam in November? What date roughly in November are the exams? Did you do them at the school? I don't suppose your child told you much about them, did he? How long is each exam? Is it only english and maths then? How does it compare in level ...

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
Thanks Kittykat, but I had it from the horse's mouth. I kind of glanced around, thinking to myself that all these kids here must be level 6 potentials. It was a daunting thought. I didn't know then that the Extension Papers had been done away with for KS2 so no state educated child will have had the...

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
Hi, when we went to the Open Day last March, I spoke to the head of maths and he told me Level 6 was required in maths, if that is any help. I thought this was quite a high demand, as what primary school teaches to that level? Does this put the prep schools on a stronger footing? We are for 2012 ent...
