Re: The January Tests

Ah, comforting words, CHDad ... can I blame you if it all goes pear-shaped on Monday?!! A couple of things I am bearing in mind - if it does go pear shaped ... simply not meant to be ... and it's not like CH have made any snap decisions! Could I cross my fingers any tighter?!

Re: The January Tests

In preparing my daughter for the November exam she did the papers available on the CH website and some 11+ ones. From my own point of view I just wanted to make sure she was used to doing papers. Once we started the process, although she could complete the papers reasonably well, we discovered her w...

Re: Residential assessment not completed

Thanks, CHDad. It's for the very reason you mention that I hope my daughter will be successful in this process - I want the next seven years for her to be fun and enjoyable - facing challenges, making friends and all that stuff. There's more to a child's education than just the academic side of thin...

Re: Residential assessment not completed

chdad - I fully agree - I actually get a lot of comfort from the fact that they take so long in reaching a decision and informing you ... it's clearly not a "snap decision process" with regards all of the children. If my daughter is not given a place at least I know a more deserving child ...

Re: At my age.......

Along similar lines ... recently a friend of mine took her strapping fifteen year old son supermarket shopping. They just picked up a few bits and pieces ... including a bottle of wine. He offered to carry the carrier bag. When she handed it to him the cashier said she would have to carry the bag he...

Re: Residential assessment not completed

You and me both, pinkhebe! She'll be at home, blah blah blah ... but in the back of my mind i've bought the CH hoodie, got the tuck list sorted and mentally ordered the name tapes!

Re: Residential assessment not completed

Thanks, englishangel for your encouragement and words of support. It's difficult not to panic - when this is a lonely road one treads and when there seems to be a lot at stake! I'm just glad of the forum! I know it will all calm down over the next few days - it's all a bit current in my mind right n...

Re: Residential assessment not completed

I can't hurt to find out when she's likely to have to sit them. Perhaps it would also flag to CH that you're keen she completes the process and didn't hate every second of her albeit brief stay. I was advised by my daughter's current headmistress not to ask how she thought she done ... as she simply...

Re: Residential assessment not completed

It's odd to think that come February 14 - a process that has occupied my mind every waking hour for what seems months and months will reach a conclusion. I have another daughter - younger who has, since this process began, been adamant boarding school was NOT for her. Since older daughter returned o...

Re: Residential assessment not completed

What a nightmare for you. My daughter attended the residential assessment too. She had a blast and loved every second of it. The sports assessment apparently is more about trying to ascertain if a child has dispraxia (not going to try and sort the spelling out on that one!) than their sporting talen...

Re: Initial assessment

Great news! January here we come! Wishing you the best of luck - but, as my daughter's headmistress reminded me ... it's not about luck ... it's about hard work! That didn't stop my daughter taking a carrier bag of good luck charms in to the November exam though!
